For all those considering Solar Red and or Space Blue we’ve got some closer real life shots for you. As previously mentioned Solar Red will only be available on the Cooper. Space Blue on the other hand will be available on both the Cooper and Cooper S. Neither of these new metallic colors will be optional on the Convertible however. Confused yet? Good, because both colors will also be available with the new US Spec Checkmate Package (including blue and grey interior). Of course neither the Checkmate Package nor Solar Red will be available until 10/05 production. Okay, now I’m confused…

i saw these colors in person and they are nice. however, i’m still mfffffd at mini for taking away colors with personality like electric blue and liquid yellow.

That blue is amazing… I have no problem with them taking out yellow (who wants to look like a taxi cab) to put in sweeter colors like these… (my opinion)

The new red is nice and would look spectacular on an MCS. IMHO, way too many blues in the same colour range.

I, personally, liked the Bumble Bee look and the Electric Blue was sweet. I buy my MINI’s (2) used so I can’t always get the colours I want.
I have had the PS/BLK, a bit boring, and now the CR/BLK.

But if I had bought new I would have been hard pressed on which to get between the liquid yellow and electric blue.

I wonder if these colours are still available elsewhere in the world? Is it only USA that is getting the short end of the stick, again???

We probably buy more of the little buggers than anybody else!

I’m debating between astro black/silver and space blue/white–but after those pics, I’m leaning to space blue/white if the blue is truly that dark. SB has appeared like HB in some pictures, and blue/grey in others–if the above picture is how it truly looks, it’s going to be hard to pass up….

I need to see HB and SB side by side. And I still need to sell everything else I own for a CheckMate JCW…

I agree with revwillie i need to see the 2 side by side i am still leaning toward HB. I like the checkmate pkg. but i want a white roof and mirrors.

I also noticed that too me the Space Blue looks alot like Indi Blue, anyone else think so?

“Is it only USA that is getting the short end of the stick, again???”

Define short end? I believe the rest of the world can only order three options:

Salt, Pepper, and Chili.

In the US you can order pretty much anything you want.

Solar red…hmmmmm.

i’m really sorry the LY won’t be available next year on the MCS. it would have been sweet to get a LY/W w/ JCW package straight from the factory.

that said, i’m taking delivery of a LY/W MCS next week
and will be looking to the aftermarket once the warranty runs out for go fast goodies!!

wow, that red is gorgeous, as someone else said it would look great on the S. Still not sure about the difference between the solar blue and the hyper blue though.

Hyper Blue is much lighter and brighter than Space Blue. You can see another “in the flesh” shot of Space Blue here.

Wow, that Solar Red is HOT!

Get it? “Solar”? “Hot”? AAHAHAHAHAHA….um…ahem….I…I’ll be right over here…. :)

I wonder if these colours are still available elsewhere in the world?
Probably not. It is the same in the UK.

Gabe, I’m just curious if you have insight on the reasoning for Solar Red being a Cooper only color.

I’ve got an 06 Chili Red MCS, but now seeing solor, I wouldn’t mind it at all.

Of course, it would have to have matching interior panels…

i want the solar red for the cooper S :(

Kurt Gillespie said: “I have no problem with them taking out yellow (who wants to look like a taxi cab)..”

You should check out pictures of the Dragon Taxi from MOTD 2005… He won favorite car of the whole event. Of course he was a LY (w/B)… The kid even did the light up taxi sign on top. Too cool! : )

I’m with you, codemunkee!

I would have bought a Solar Red Cooper S in a second. But instead I had to squeeze in a last minute order for an electric blue ’05 Cooper S.

I don’t understand why the MC gets yellow and a great metallic red, the convertibles get hot orange and cool blue while the 06 MCS is stuck with a number of silvers and dark blues.

What were they thinking??? Some people want a bright MCS!

Freber –

Considering the amount of silver Cooper S models I see around LA, it’s not the least bit surprising. I would say the color range in LA for S models is 85% silver or dark silver, 5% blues, 5% blacks, 4% reds, and 1% yellow.

Personally, I am bored with the new colors. Why they would take away the great colors of Liquid Yellow and Electric Blue is beyond me. True, I have a Chili Red MCSC, but I wanted my MINI to have the old-style Cooper/rally look (but didn’t want an MC40) and red was the way to go.

And now for 2006 we have more blue choices, more red, more silver, more black.

Ho hum.

IMHO, the MINI is such a special car, I think it ought to have special colors that you don’t see (albeit in varying shades or tones) on every other car out there on the road…

Red cars are cop-magnets, nevertheless, I’d take my chances with that Solar Red.

If anyone’s seen it in person, is it like Chili but with metallic flakes? Or maybe a bit darker? Would you go as far as Candy apple?

(Of course, without S, it’s all moot to me)
hs

My dealership here in Michigan, Motor City MINI, has the sample plate for Royal Grey, too. Stop it to see all three samples in person.

I saw the Solar Red in person today and it looks a bit toward a dark brick red. Definitely not similar to the Chili Red. My MA said it IS available on the MCS. He could be wrong.

Well, at least according to MINIUSA’s internal 2006 pricing sheets, it is not.

I ordered a Space Blue/Silver MCS Chilli yesterday – Can’t wait!! You guys reckon you’ve got to wait a long time for Minis, mine won’t be built until January next year and shipping to Australia is another 2 months on top of that!! Still, it’ll be worth the wait : )

I still do not understand why they limited the availability of Liquid Yellow. At my local dealership, it’s the most popular color by truckloads…

Does anyone know if the Solar Red will be available with the white top. I am ordering my new mini in a couple of months and I want red, now I want the SR. Please let me know what you think Gabe.

Love that Solar Red. (Why do we need Space Blue? Didn’t we just get rid of Indi Blue?)

But, WHY must we get RID of colors when adding new colors?? (Just get rid of colors when they stink, like, for lack of commitment — PH, anyone?)

LY and EB were both great. (My second and third choices, in fact — of those available at the time I ordered.) IF I turn in my MCS at the end of my lease or some other time (or, heaving forbid, it gets totalled somehow), I want to order an EB/B. And, while we’re at it, bring back VR & SiGr. (Oh, yeah, and since we’re fantasizing, I’m going to go whole hog: give us more options for roof colors than just W, B or body…. I could seriously dig an SR/Gold MCS!)

And, as someone else said earlier, since when do fans of sportier models like more SUBDUED colors? I would think it might even be the oppositie — racier colors for a racier crowd. Give the MCS’s HO, SoGo, and the new SR. And, to go w/ PS and SoGo: Cooper Copper!! (“CC” or “CoCo”!)
