From MINI Press:
In the fifth year after launch, the MINI continues to enjoy strong growth rates. The sales volume in the second quarter 2005 totalled 55,420 units, 16.9% more than in the previous year (second quarter 2004: 47,402 units). 108,114 MINI brand vehicles were sold during the first half of 2005, an increase of 13.6% compared to the same period last year (first half-year 2004: 95,168).

Gabe,

As a MINI owner I’m very happy that month after month MINI is reporting great sales gains. The assembly line is humming.

However, the question that I wonder about is what is happening to build quality?

My ’04 has not had one problem in its 24,000 mile life.

Are the MINIs being built today maintaining that level of quality?

Actually it’s been getting better and better. You will find a noticable difference in the quality of the 2002’s and 2003’s and the 2005’s.

An incredible difference. If you take a look at the one month review of my new MCS, you’ll see that the new cars are substancially better in all facets of build quality. Many of the interior components are totally new in fact.

Gabe, which “new components” are you referring to?

Gabe, which “new components” are you referring to?

Door hinges, dashboard, seats, dash inserts, steering wheel, shift knob, door inserts, console, and seat belt anchors, just to name a few…

I’ll be doing a story on this question in the next few days.

Cool thanks. I’ll be looking forward to your report.

dare I ask

Where is JimOhio?

Hey O…LOL, I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he’s only concerned about USA only numbers. :)

RenaultF1, I think you’re right. His premise on limiting MINI sales holds no water outside of the U.S. (Of course, such a conditional argument is flawed to begin with, but that can of worms has already been opened and the contents have crawled away).

Maybe JimOhio is tired of being batted down constantly

hi folks

i am here.. i read this sales report and let it go by.. the first part of the first comment on this thread is truly astounding though..
the first part of their post, applauding giddily rising sales is something i really cannot see how anyone’s mind can find that good news.

it is truly baffling to sound logic of car enthusiasts and car collectors.

now it is in line with car minds if you were selling ford tauruses in that day or honda accords.. i wonder if they meant to buy a honda accord and wanted to see honda overtake toyota’s camry as the number one volume car seller..

surely no one with a car enthusiast mind would find that good news.

but i did not make a post on this..
i let it go..
well i tried

Oh, oh, the creep is back.

Well, it seems that JimOhio is astounded by my post.

Sorry, but that’s ok.

Let me explain my thinking (something even my wife has trouble with it).

I am a car enthusiast. I’ve purchased muscle cars, FWD/off road cars, 2 seat sports cars, and even rebuild a British car. I’ve bough new cars and used cars.

I like cars for the pleasure of owning, driving, working on, and just sitting in my driveway.

I bought a ’04 MINI and I love it for all those reasons and more.

Some may say I’m self centered, but it’s my money and I think my MINI a good value.

It’s really not a financial investment (I can get a much better $$ return on putting my money somewhere else).

I could say that I don’t really care if anyone else likes or dislikes MINI as my choice is I do like the brand.

But, I don’t feel that way.

Down deep in side, I’m pleased that other people see the value in MINI and they make the investment too. I’ll bet that their car doesn’t have the options that I have. I’ll bet that they don’t drive like I drive. I’ll bet that they don’t even think like I think – but so what?

That’s the power of having the ability to use my money to go into the automotive marketplace and find (for what ever reason I choose) and buy the car that I want.

Someday, my MINI will be replaced. Maybe it’ll be another MINI or maybe not. Maybe it’ll have a high re-sale value or maybe not.

But I will have received a great deal of PERSONAL value from the car. And that’s whats important to me.

I sure hope a lot of other people find their personal value in MINI like I have.

So, as a car enthusiast, I’m delighted that MINIs are setting sales records month after month after month.

And I sure hope that their MINI has the same or even greater ‘quality’ that I’ve found in mine.

If JimOhio finds my thinking truly astounding – well, good for him. That’s OK.

RonNJ

Ron,

You “hit the nail on the head”

As I recent employed Trainee Sales Exec for MINI I am getting worried as soon everyone will have a mini who will I sell them too. They are truely wonderful cars and a car that you can personalise. I cant think of one other car that lets you personalise it as much as a MINI, The cutomising posibilities are endless from the roof top to the wheels. If you take a look at the MINI website you can see exactly how much work goes into building one these superb cars. The quality does get better better and better as part of the BMW group you cant expect anything less than high quality, it has to be said the germans are fantastic engineers. What a young fab funky car Im sure peoples eyes light up and a smile spreads across there face when one drives past….

Jodie, do you know the phrase “preaching to the choir” ;)
