For those of you continuing on into Texas, Metroplex MINI has put together a flyer for their car wash event and some helpful maps to help you navigate through Dallas to their event and the official MINIUSA event.
SOME FACTS ABOUT DEEP ELLUM
- Deep Ellum is the local (not tourist) bar scene in Dallas. Very Hip. Very Cool
- Being hip and cool, there is also very limited parking. Leave early to get there
- Being so close to the city, you will also deal with unfavorable city elements. Be careful
- THERE IS NO FREE PARKING IN DEEP ELLUM – EVER. Even the parking meters are watched 24/7
- MINI USA has FREE Valet Parking for all MTTS participants.
- The Gypsy Tea Room event will sell out. Once the venue is full, venue security will not allow further entrance.
Please arrive early to ensure entrance before the event.

Some more information for those coming to Dallas:
Between 2 and 5 pm that Saturday, the 2 local Dallas dealerships, MINI of Dallas and Moritz MINI have gotten together to offer a free KwikKar carwash — a $12 value — to any MINI driver wearing a MTTS red wristband. The carwash is 1.3 miles west of MacArthur on the north-side access road of 635, also known as LBJ Freeway.
Right by the carwash, the dealerships have found a Cajun restaurant, Razoo’s, that is offering 20% off all food orders between 2 and 5 pm to anyone w/ a MTTS wristband.
The local club, Metroplex MINI, will be running a service station in the Razoo’s parking lot from 2 until 5 pm. They will be checking and topping up vital engine fluids for you… torquing lug bolts and adjusting tire pressures. They will also have some detailing supplies, to help with that inevitable scratch or scuff from a road trip. Head on by the tan tent, say “Howdy†and get your car checked out for the long haul up to Lime Rock.
Currently, parking is free in Deep Ellum – I live 1 block from there.
Is that the part of dallas blocked off to allow drinking in the streets? It’s been many years but I remember that was a fun area. I guess not if there’s parking.
For anyone going, make sure to get a steak. Probably anywhere in texas. Even if it is at a Texas Land & Cattle chain. I don’t remember having a better steak anywhere else, even at five times the price!
…and by steak, Josh could be referring to chicken fried steak 🙂 Texas is the undisputed king of the CFS, serving over 800,000 of them a day!
DB,
I got some time to drive around downtown this weekend and lock down the routes to and from Dallas HQ, the W Hotel. I’ve also updated the maps and instructions to reflect this (and fixed a few typos).
Can you update the file on your link with the following:

Sorry, if this has changed. I’ve just had some bad experiences in the past where free parking wasn’t available.
There is parking on the street, but most of those spaces (from the few streets in that area I go to) are metered… 25 cents for a half hour, I think.
Once the clubs get going, I think those spaces will be few and far between. There are some pay lots in the area, but you will probably want to get there fairly early… just to be sure.
“I’ve just had some bad experiences in the past where free parking wasn’t available.”
So have I – I’ll check on it again tomorrow. I just remember the news doing some story a few weeks back about the free parking in an attempt to help revitalize the area. Deep Ellum used to be very neat, but has gone down hill the last few years. It’s probably best to valet somewhere, and there is a lot directly across from the Gypsy that is lighted.
I’m leary to recommend parking these brand new GPs in this neighborhood, but hopefully, there will be enough MINI folks around to keep an eye on these vehicles.

Thanks for checking. With two kids, I don’t get down there as often as I would like.
I agree. Free parking or not, folks should probably valet. I typically don’t, but in this situation it just might be worth it.
So the valet is free to MTTS wrist band folks but is the event itself free? I was looking at the Web site for the Tea room and could find no refrence to the event and the comics and band MINI says are going to be there are not the ones listed for that night? I’m confussed.

This is the info from the MTTS Special Event page:
“The power combo of Rolling Stone magazine and Men’s Journal have partnered with MINI USA to throw a Texas style party (that’s BIG!). Motor on to The Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas where 900 of your closest MINI family and friends will enjoy an evening of laughs, music and more. The evening with be hosted by comedian Jay Davis. The event begins at 8:00 pm. Seating and parking are limited so early arrival is recommended. Snacks provided courtesy of Rolling Stone magazine and Men’s Journal with a cash bar. Comedians Jay Davis and Rusty Dooley, along with the musical entertainment of Patrick Ryan Clark, will make this a must for all registered MINI Takes the States motorists.
The Gypsy Tea Room is located at 2548 Elm Street, Deep Ellum, Dallas, TX. Complimentary valet parking available for as many as 700 MINIs.”
My guess, although it doesn’t state it, is that admission into the GTR is free for those wearing the wrist band.
As I mentioned above, Metroplex MINI will be manning a ‘service station’ topping up engine fluids (coolant, oil, brake, washer) and checking/inflating tire pressures in the Razoo’s parking lot near the Moritz / MINI of Dallas car wash in Dallas.
Moritz MINI has graciously offered to provide the consumables for us, so you can rest assured that everything going into your brand new GP (or any other MINI) is up to the factory spec!
Three cheers for MORITZ MINI!
Welcome to Texas y’all… where everything is big, unless it’s MINI.
