Grab a refreshing beverage and pull-up a comfy chair, we’ve got all kinds of official information on options for the 2007 MINI Coupe. While this PDF is meant for the UK market, it should give us some general ideas on specification and pricing for other markets as well.
[ 2007 R56 Options (UK Market) ] Official PDF
There are some interesting nuggets in that document.
<blockquote>IMPORTANT: If no Interior Surface is specifically ordered, Piano Black 4BD will automatically default and will be charged separately.
IMPORTANT: If no Steering While is specifically ordered, 2-Spoke Leather Steering Wheel 240 will automatically default and will be charged separately.</blockquote>
[sarcasm]Nice of them to automatically default upcharges. [/sarcasm]
Also interesting to see the 2-Spoke steering wheel is going to continue to be an option for the U.K. Hopefully MINIUSA will consider making it an option here too.
<blockquote>Automatic 6 Speed Gearbox
Expected Availability: MINI Cooper – December 2006
Expected Availability: MINI Cooper S – March 2007</blockquote>
That March date may disappoint some.
<blockquote>Model Badge Deletion</blockquote>
In other news, dental floss futures unexpectedly dipped today.
<blockquote>Passenger Seat Height Adjustment £50</blockquote>
In other markets, have height adjustable passenger seats been charged for on the R50/R53?
Hopefully the U.S. spec will include this in the Base price. It seems rediculous to pay £50 for height adjustable passenger seats when they have been included as standard spec up until this point.
<blockquote>TV Function for Navigation System £710</blockquote>
No doubt this option was Dead on Arrival when it got to the BMWUSA Legal Department.
<blockquote>White Indicators
White direction indicator glass in headlamps, side direction indicators, and rear lights £50 for MC, STD on MCS</blockquote>
Given <a href="http://bridger.us/r56_final/600/34.jpg">the fried egg look with the orange glass</a> this should be popular with the online contingent.
This seems to be a <a href="http://bridger.us/r56_final/mis/lightning_blue.jpg">much more paletable £50 option</a>
ÂÂÂ
Looks good however I didn’t notice the mention of a limited slip differential? Is that standard now?
You’re right it isn’t listed.
However, this is from the <a href="http://motoringfile.com/2006/08/14/the-2007-mini-in-detail/" rel="nofollow">Official Press Release</a>
<blockquote>The MINI Cooper S will also be available as an option with a mechanical limited-slip differential</blockquote>
Hopefully they’ll have the LSDs for the initial roll-out in the USA otherwise I’ll have to wait to get one.
So what do is the ‘Chilli Pack’ and ‘Pepper Pack’?
>Exterior mirrors electrically foldable and heated, includinheated windscreen washer jets
Heated mirrors with the exterior mirror pack would be cool! Auto folding AND heated? Would practically eliminate the need for the cold weather package (for myself anyway)
Also, some of the options are bit more expensive than last year (hoping my conversion is correct)…almost $3K for Nav? $1500 for Bluetooth?
Wow, I hope our pricing comes in a bit cheaper than that.
Need white turn signals!!!!!!
<blockquote>Also, some of the options are bit more expensive than last year (hoping my conversion is correct)…almost $3K for Nav? $1500 for Bluetooth?</blockquote>
Pricing comparison of Cooper S pricing from the MINI UK site and the PDF above
Nav
2006 £1440 (MINI UK)
2007 £1500 (PDF)
4.1% increase
2006 MINIUSA Price: $1700
My 2007 U.S. Market Price Projection: $1800 (since a 4.1% increase would be $1770 and MINI likes round numbers)
Bluetooth
2006 £720 (MINI UK)
2007 £770 (PDF)
Based on the ratio of 1700/1440 (2006 U.S. Nav price / 2006 U.K. Nav), my 2007 U.S. Market Price Projection for Bluetooth: $900
Why isn’t Lightning Blue listed as one of the metalic colors?
Where are the other colors?
The code for British Racing Green is listed as A67 instead of 895 … a new shade perhaps?
A67 is the replacement color code for BRG. It is the same exact color as 895 though. Changed back in April or so.
Maybe it’s just me but A67 sounds non-metallic – isn’t that what an A means?
>Maybe it’s just me but A67 sounds non-metallic – isn’t that what an A means?
Oh man… I can’t believe you did that.
FLAT BRG!!! NOT!!!
Interesting designations, though… the “Pepper Pack” & the “Chili Pack”. Not the traditional Sport, Premium and Cold Weather designations.
…and no package that INCLUDES the sun roof. I’d be curious to see if things get shifted around for the US market. Heck even Canadas titles are a little differnt with the “Soho” and “Rally” references for the MC and MCS.
Looks exciting, for sure!
<blockquote>Heck even Canadas titles are a little differnt with the “Soho†and “Rally†references for the MC and MCS.</blockquote>
The “Soho” and “Rally” aren’t references to the cars, but to special edition packages for the cars, much like the Park Lane or the Checkmate.
>Maybe it’s just me but A67 sounds non-metallic – isn’t that what an A means?
Whoa? Maybe a flat BRG? hmmm…might have to rethink my color choice 😉
And, the pricing I came up with were straight conversions, pound to dollar (thank you google). I like your numbers better Dave 🙂
Both bluetooth and comfort access can be had in a $700 package for a $15K Versa. What makes the MINI version so much more expensive?
<blockquote>I like your numbers better Dave :)</blockquote>
I do too. I’ll be interested to see how close they are to the actual numbers
<blockquote>Both bluetooth and comfort access can be had in a $700 package for a $15K Versa. What makes the MINI version so much more expensive?</blockquote>
A couple of points:
1. No official U.S. pricing has been announced. The U.S. market numbers in this thread are conjecture.
2. MINI is a premium european small car. Though I wouldn’t claim they are “direct” competitors, the GTI and the Audi A3 are probably pretty good choices for benchmarking. With that in mind, you shouldn’t expect options pricing to be the same as that of a car that lists the Kia Rio and Chevy Aveo as it’s primary competitors. Not that there is anything wrong with the Rio, The Aveo, or the Versa, but they just aren’t in the same class of vehicle and they aren’t after the same demographic.
Even if the production costs for bluetooth and comfort access for MINI and Nissan were exactly the same, the <em>price</em> both would ask for the same option should be expected to be different. Why? Because MINI can command the price based on the <em>percieved value</em> consumers have for the MINI as a more premium product.
<blockquote>Interesting designations, though: the “Pepper Pack†& the “Chili Packâ€ÂÂ. Not the traditional Sport, Premium and Cold Weather designations.</blockquote>
The UK market has always had these options packs, which are different to the U.S. ones. Australia introduced a ‘Chilli’ pack for the 05 models but everything else is a la carte. Each country seems to vary quite a lot in how they offer their MINIs to their customers.
Wow. A lot of stuff to read through. Something that I didn’t see commented on was the Voice control. As read “Control of various telephone and navigation systems as well as <strong>notepad function</strong>.” It would be impressive to do dictation to your MINI, but how would you get the notes out of the car? USB printer?? 🙂
>Something that I didn’t see commented on was the Voice control.
Voice control is part of the R56 navigation system. You can read more from our <a href="http://motoringfile.com/2006/08/30/2007-navigation-system-to-include-idrive/" rel="nofollow">recent story </a>.
Also, no mention of a chrono pack. I was hoping for something along the same lines as the navigation, but with some extra gauges (including a fuel indicator with a proper needle instead of those LEDs) instead of the nav screen. Anything to get rid of those hideous stereo controls.
Sweet options – once you add the JCW range I can see some really pricy Minis knocking about!
Resepect to Mini for offering so many goodies, although I am sure that they benefit from it as well!
No “sport button” on the Cooper… lame. 😉
VELOUR Floor Mats – YEOW! Pimp my ride, baby.
So if the battery will be under the hood on the S, then why can’t the S get a space saver spare?
Hi Guys
I’ve had four Cooper S’s so far with the latest being the Cabrio and i’d ordered myself the new Cooper S… well, now that i’ve seen this document i think i’ll reconsider my order for on account of one detail. Air-conditioning is STILL not standard! Even £8K Skodas have it as standard these days and i just feel that £16K basic with no air-con is being too greedy on MINI’s behalf. The car has increased in price by £2K (with Chili option fitted) since i bought my first Cooper S in 2002, but we have got nothing more for this than a bl**dy CD player and bi-xenon lights. Wow! I know the Chili pack included air-con but we should have it as standard now and either the price of the Chili pack be reduced, or they add another item in their to fill the gap. I feel that MINI are trading on the premace that their products have a large enough following that they can rip off their punters over and over for such items. Well for me, this is going to stop.
Volkswagen came a cropper when they launched the latest Golf without air-con on most models and after 6 months of poor sales, it quickly changed its mind! Lets see if this happens with MINI?
Oh I like:
<blockquote>4BE Interior Trim English Oak – real wood trim</blockquote>
This will look nice in my future Clubman (hint) Along with some wood exterior trim. 😉
<blockquote>Why isn’t Lightning Blue listed as one of the metalic colors?</blockquote>
Anyone? Gabe?
With regard to the automatic in the S, does this mean you wouldn’t even be able to place an order till March of 07?
Lightning Blue may not be an option for the UK or it may just have another name.
<blockquote>Lightning Blue may not be an option for the UK or it may just have another name.</blockquote>
<blockquote>Metallic Paint
– 871 Dark Silver (Expected Availablility – December 2006)
– 900 Pure Silver
– A25 Astro Black
– A59 Laser Blue
– A60 Sparkling Silver
– A67 British Racing Green (Expected Availability – December 2006)</blockquote>
I don’t think they’re calling it by another name, at least not one that is mentioned in the PDF.
Looking at <a href="http://bridger.us/R56_pdfs/paintwork_coopers.pdf" rel="nofollow">this</a>, I’m wondering if they aren’t planning on keeping Hyper Blue.
So what about it suggests Hyper Blue will stick around? Just curious, since it’s not listed.
I’m crossing my fingers that they just haven’t finalized the color list and that additions will be made when it becomes availible for the states (I hope, I hope, I hope).
I would got for Indy Blue, Hyper Blue or Lightning Blue… as long as its a darker blue color. My guess however, is that they just haven’t perfected the Lightning Blue paint mix. REMEMBER: Mini is switcing to a new paint process and (forgive me if this is over-generalized) going away from the baked-on paints. I would assume that some changes in the paint mixture and chemicals have to occurr (along with some extencive testing of each specific color) before the color is put into the market for production cars.
Just guessing of course (and crossing my fingers, still).
>So what about it suggests Hyper Blue will stick around? Just curious, since it’s not listed.
No… it’s gone for the R56.
