For all those who can’t get enough configurating, the 2008 MINI USA online confirgurator is rumored to be going online this Friday. It will include not only the updated pricing for the 2008 MINI Coupes (R56) but also the new MINI Clubman (R55) as well.
So keep one eye open and a finger on the refresh button.
I have a question regarding suspension on the R56. I’m sure it’s in an article somewhere but I cant find the exact info.
I understand that if you purchased an R53 Cooper S, it already came with an enhanced “sport suspension”.
With the R56 Cooper S, you have the choice of adding a sport suspension option in the configurator.
What is that difference and does it have an effect on the “Sport mode button” that the cars have?
The only thing that effectively has changed is the terminology.
For the 1st Gen MINIs, ALL of the standard suspensions were called “Sport Suspension”. You then also had the option of going to the “Sport Suspension Plus”, which was the factory upgraded one (stiffer springs, etc).
For the 2nd Gen MINIs, they realized this was silly, and so the standard suspension is the standard suspension, and the upgraded one is now known as the “Sport Suspension”.
It is my understanding that the Sport button only affects the steering response and the throttle control (both electronically affected) and has no effect on the suspension (which is 100% mechanical).
So as of Friday the ’08 is released and ’07 will no longer be available? Will the wait time be the same? I thought the ’08 was not availabel until February or March.

Is the R53 Sport Suspension Plus tighter than the R56 “Sport Suspension”?
08 models will not likely arrive until February and will coincide somewhat with the arrival of the Clubman. Production of the 08s should start in December. I wouldn’t look to see any “good deals” until the 2008s are on the lot – Maybe if dealers have 2007s left over at that point then you might see a break of some sort, but I wouldn’t bet on it
A visit to this link and a view of the associated source code will provide a preview of the redesigned site I am really looking forward to being launched tomorrow.
When should the dealers have the MY08 sales literature. If they have it now – when should they be allowed to distribute? Since the configurator may be up by Saturday.
Does any one have an interior dimension of the clubman measuring from the front end of the dash board at the bottom of the windshield to the rear door? I haul long but small poles often and like to know the length of the poles that I can fit in with rear door closed.
Will they have the views of the MINI with JCW options?
Now if they’d only bring back Jet Black
you guys are on the ball
Well there’s go a productive day at work.

Edge,
Thanks for the info.
Include me in the list of people that won’t be getting much work done on Friday.
Hopefully this is true as I was going to purchase an 07 S this week.

Stay strong.
Yes, Jet Black by 2009 hopefully! Looking forward to playing with the 2008 MINI configurator.
Would love to see the return of Jet Black too, still very interested in seeing the changes in the next year.
So Gabe … are we in for any surprises come Friday?

Anyone know of good deals coming up to clear out the 07s (financing, cash back, etc)?

No change yet….

Still, no change….
So, what is the deal with the ’08 MINIUSA online configurator not being up yet?
Gabe?
Going live next week.
