You’ve heard the rumors, seen the photos, and read the reviews and even our recent comparison test. Now (as is tradition on MotoringFile) it’s time to pour over the official PDF installation instructions.
Does the ECU upgrade really need the new exhaust and air intake? I just wish MINI had optimized the ECU for the car from the beginning instead of de-tuning it so we’ve got to do an upgrade.
At least w/ the R53, the upgrade involved more mechanical parts (albeit for a lot more money).
Any way, I love my R56 like I loved my previous two R53s, so this is just a casual observation.
so for the clubman, common parts that would be changed are the intake and ECU programming? I have heard the clubman exhaust and it sounds sweet. Much more aggressive than I thought it would be. I am not sure the need to change it.
What’s an “ECE” vehicle, compared with “SAE”?
North American vs Euro spec (give or take).
Usually break-in periods allow the mechanical moving-parts of the engine to seat and settle-in to one-another before being stressed too much.
Since all of the items involved in this upgrade are passive (no moving parts) I would say there is really NO break-in to be performed.
Rich.
You never know – those badges might just need a 1500mile break in… 🙂
So europe gets a new exhaust manifold, and the US gets stiffed on that too?
>So europe gets a new exhaust manifold, and the US gets stiffed on that too?
Actually it’s the opposite. The US has always had the upgraded exhaust manifold. European models are the ones that get the upgrade.

My pores are blocked from poring over the pdf. Maybe I should pour myself a drink.

Would the larger R56 JCW Exhaust Embellishers fit on my GP?
Adding fuel to the spark plug fire, did anybody else notice this?

The spark plugs must be replaced at each oil change after installation of the John Cooper Works tuning kit.
