MTTS 2008
(Updated Feb. 29 – our original information on the dates of each event was incorrect. Look for the final information next Monday on MotoringFile): From the moment we scooped MINI USA’s plans for MTTS, we’ve gotten email after email asking, where and when. We’re happy to say we can finally report what we know. Based on sources, MTTS 2008 will kick off in Miami, FL move to Boston, MA, Chicago IL and finally Los Angeles CA.
Chicago here I come. I missed the last MTTS but not again.
See you all there.
Jim
Yay!
MTTS ’08, Miami is waiting for you with wide open arms!!!!
Thanks Gabe! Best news of the week!
Chicago here i come. 😀
I can’t decide which one to attend.
I bet one of the events will be a track drive at Miami-Homestead Speedway!
Dickdavid… Come to the Magic City!
Fantastic news!… I’m moving from London to Boston next month!…
Gary
Will there be some weekday events as well or just the weekends? I’ll be away for a wedding the weekend when they are around here.
Geez, Chi-town, Gabe! Nice co-inky-dink! Ya gonna be at ’em all? WRR has to be the voice of MTTS 2008, just gotta be. Looks like fun even without the run.
Looking forward to the Chicago event, but it is going to be a short road trip..
Too bad the Chitown dates didn’t coincide with The Taste. 🙂
I’ll be itching to hear what’s planned for Land of Lincoln.
As for L.A., I hope the events are in The Basin this time, instead of skirting the five counties like back in ’06.
Ouch
Miami 3260
Boston 3140
Chicago 2120
LA 960
Would be a great time to live in Florida, pretty nice to hit three of the events without to much grief.
Very disappointed that MTTS will not be coming to the San Francisco Bay Area. I was hoping for a return to Monterey, CA and Laguna Seca. I will not be driving down to LA. Nightmare traffic and crazy drivers. Too bad. Wonder why MiniUSA decided not to come back to Laguna Seca?
Oh well, that’s the way it goes.
900km and 8 hours to Boston and 840km and 8 hours to Chicago…
I guess Toronto is right in the middle of the two!!
Yeah! For Chicago! I live in the Western ‘burbs of Chicago! It will a short drive. Maybe the Cubs and Sox will be in first place too!
Dallas to Chicago: 968 mi
Dallas to Miami: 1,363 mi
Dallas to LA: 1,436 mi
Dallas to Boston: 1,763 mi
Elwood: It’s ‘968’ miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Jake: Hit it.
Seriously, I’m shocked that it’s coming to SoCal again (no offense to you guys) leaving the Pacific North West ignored.
Uhhh. How can I now ensure a business trip to Chicago for mid-July???
Ugh, Miami. In June, no less. Figures they’d have it there since I was born and raised there but didn’t get my MINI til I finally escaped to another locale. Wouldn’t want to subject him to the parking lots and corresponding disrespectful driver’s down there anyway. The dates do correspond with when I’d probably make a visit to family and friends, but I don’t think I’ll be making the (quite boring) road trip down there. If I go while I’m visiting, it will be sans MINI.
I’m ~800 miles from Miami or Boston. Too bad DC couldn’t have been one of the stops. Twelve hours is a long way to drive for a weekend.
No return to the Motor Speedway- darn! Oh well Chicago isn’t that far, and with traffic if leave today I should get there in time 😉
The L.A. finale has to be the weekend before Comic-Con in San Diego… I may have to make it out this year. Better start making my reservations.
I wish they would have done a more central Southeast city like Atlanta. But I am sure there was reasons for the choice. Sounds like fun!!
Given the dealers (4) in the South Florida area, I think it was a good, logical choice on MINIs part. Being born and raised in Miami, I welcome all MINI owners to, as c4 said, “The Magic City”! Let me know if anyone has any questions on the Miami area. I can provide both biased and unbiased answers.
Yes, Miami has a terrible reputation, but this ain’t some delapidated hell hole like Detroit or Cleveland (No offense to Clevelanders).
We may not have the mountains and the twisties, but we have a vibrant MINI community down here an welcome everyone to enjoy the best our city has to offer.
Indeed drivers here are bad and people are inconsiderate in parking lots but I have seen much of the same in Seattle, New York City and other more Ämerican” cities.
I am not a Miami fanboy (After 20+ years I am looking forward to move to the cool mountains of the west)but the place is not as bad as some would like you to believe.
I am curious to see what will be MINIUSA’s schedule of activities here for the kickoff event.
A couple of years ago, a poster either here or at NAM said that MINIUSA doesn’t seem to like the Pacific Northwest. If I lived in Seattle or Portland I would be pissed. The region gets the shaft once again. I do not understand why MINIUSA continues to give a cold shoulder to this beautiful part of the country.
San Francisco or Monterey? Nah, you guys already had your bulk of events there (MTTS ’06 kickoff and the recent BMW press junket.) NorCal is gorgeous but it is time to let other regions enjoy a piece of the action as well.
See you all in Miami!
Roger, South Florida is the biggest if not the second largest MINI market (After California)in the United States. While I am not taking credit for their decision to include Miami (Florida) for MTTS ’08 I did let them have it. I told them it would be asinine to ignore your biggest demographic for the ’08 event.
Folks in the Pacific Northwest should voice their displasure to MINIUSA for once again excluding them from the schedule of events.
YIPPEE!!!! Chicago, here I come!
Well, I guess I’ll be driving down Highway 1 in July to return to my old stompin’ grounds. I’ll have to take some vacation time to visit old friends and check out what happened to our previous homes. Oh yeah, and drive some SoCal twistys.
Chicago it is!! i cant wait for a MINI filled weekend right before my birthday, this is the best present MINI USA!!!

c4 – if I remember correctly, SoCal (Santa Barbara) was part of MTTS in 2006. So why would SoCal be included and not NorCal? As for the BMW press junket, that was for the press…hence “Press Junket”. As far as I know the public was not invited to that? (Gabe?)
I don’t know the statistics, but the SF Bay Area (not just the city of San Francisco) has a very high number of Mini Owners. Don’t know what the ratio is to other Metropolitan areas, but from observing, I see lots of Mni’s everywhere. I would think that MiniUSA would have another MTTS event here in the Bay Area.
I understand that every Mini enthusiast would like to have a MTTS event in their city, and that’s something which MiniUSA would not be able to do, but I also think MiniUSA could have looked at sales and ownership of Mini’s in each Metro area (similar sized Metro areas) and had an event in those Metro areas with high ownership. Just my opinion and thought.
Gabe is there still a way to lobby MiniUSA to add an area of MTTS? (Yeah I know, just wishful thinking) 🙂

I’m just guessing, but maybe MINIUSA is seeing the big event in the SF area and didn’t want to compete. Maybe? Your guess is as good as mine.

I was expecting the NY metro area. But Boston is cool. Far enough to call it a road trip but not too far in that I’ll have to max out my credit card for the potential $4/gallon gas this summer.
Boston is always a great place to visit. I’m looking forward to it. Patiently awaiting details and locations.
I’d avoid city, and MINI population, comparisons – it could be an ugly show all around at that rate, laddies. No whining, either. I see no Dago, not last time either, or Vegas this time around, and with AMVIV coming up, MINIUSA may be letting locals handle things locally. Sounds like a plan to me. They will never be able to please everyone, and what’s on the table now will likely work better for some who traveled far last time. I added a few miles to my OD last trip with no problem, so this time around, I catch a break. Meanwhile, get out your TripTics, and start planning – it’ll be on us before you know it.
I am working to see about hitting one or two of the meets, though still a long long drive +4k mile round trip to Chicago. Would love to hit Boston or Miami but thats just way to far for me right now.
Thinking though with my “slight” oposition to the R60 MiniUSA planned to keep themselves far far away ;). Actually think that these events will be a riot, and something to keep me satisfied until the 50th next year at Mini United.
Vanwall makes a good point. Number of MINIs sold in a metro is one thing, MINIs sold as a percent of total pop is another. A ton of car are sold in NY/NJ but not so huge as a percent of the total. Miami was not on MTTS last time, and I am sure there’s a ton of planning that goes into these decisions. Like event spaces and track avails.
