MINI USA sales were up across all three model line around 5% for the month of April. With new dealers coming online and new products being launch soon (refresh in September and Countryman early next year) the future is looking up for MINI’s largest market.
Official Release: While the premium small car segment is lagging other segments, MINI continued to show a strong performance and increased its segment share. In April, 3,843 MINI’s were sold, up 5.1 percent versus the 3,657 units reported in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA also reported sales of 12,571 automobiles, an increase of 3.3 percent.
MINI’s long term growth prospects continue to be strong due to macro economic developments in the U.S. To prepare for this future growth, MINI’s product range will double from three to six models starting in 2011 and the dealer network is being expanded to 100 exclusive stores by summer of this year with dealers investing a combined $200 million this year and last.

The Clubman is hanging in there. It’ll be a real shame if they discontinue it. Some of those 800-ish customers per month would probably end up in a Cooper or a Countryman, but most of them are probably going to end up in a GTI after the Clubman is gone.

“What about the numbers for the JCW? Are they mixed in with the Cooper/S group?”

I think so. There is a thread on northamericanmotoring.com about this, but it was for 2009 and not 2010. For 2009, it turned out that 498 JCWs came to the US in total, 60-some to Canada and 30-some to Mexico. The exact numbers can be found in the Factory JCW forum.

A couple of weeks ago, I was part of a group of 20 MINIs that took part in the Watkins Glen Opening Day event. Including mine, we had 3 JCWs which was .6% of the 2009 population!

The Z4 is up 908.7%. Its amazing how much Mr. Clarkson backing a car can change its sales figures. I hope he likes the Countryman.
