This video was taken at the initial run of the MINI E around the ‘Ring last April. At the time you may remember there was some excitement over the 9:51 time it recorded. While that mark isn’t exactly GTR shattering, it is relatively impressive for an electric car that’s currently being used as a field study.
Regardless of whether you think it’s impressive or not, it’s hard to not be take a back by watching the car do that time in video. The noise (or lack there of) is shocking for what it actually allows you hear. The wind, the car and the suspension shifting… it’s all a little of a shock at first.

Update: Here’s the video from this weekend’s lap between the MINI Challenge race and the start of the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring.

Here’s MINI E’s last appearance at the Nürburgring, May 15th, 2010 during the 24-hour race:

I love watching the power reserve gauge bounce up and down… not sure what I’d do if my fuel gauge started doing that!

wow, i was totally “take a back” by that…

This is the first time I’ve seen a MINI with a smooth, glossy finish on top of the dash. Could it be carbon fiber?

I am so ready to be done with internal combustion.

I’m not familiar with the MINI E dash.. What is the yellow light and red gauge showing at higher speeds?

its so odd not to hear the roar of an engine, its more like the hum of an oversized golf cart.

Very video game with the soundtrack less IC engine noise. i dig it…
