MINI USA Sales up 67.7% for April 2011

Big sales news this afternoon from MINI USA. April sales were the best ever for MINI USA, with monthly sales up 67.7% and year-to-date sales up 49.4% over last year. Top sellers were the Hardtop — with 2,343 Cooper and Cooper S hatchbacks — and the Countryman, with 1,709 cars sold in April. A trend in sales decline for both the Convertible and the Clubman continued in April as well, with the Clubman down 2.9% and Convertible sales down 15.8%. More info after the break.
[Official release] MINI USA reported sales of 6,446 automobiles making it the best sales month ever in the U.S. April 2011 sales are an increase of 67.7% over the 3,843 sold in April, 2010.
“The refreshed and expanded MINI model lineup has been driving demand since the first of the year and now rising gas prices mean even more people are open to small,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President – MINI USA. “The U.S. is MINI’s largest market and the addition of the new Countryman offering four doors and All Wheel Drive is a real game-changer, further increasing our appeal.”
Year-to-date, MINI sales in the U.S. are up 49.4% on volume of 18,787 compared to 12,571 in the first four months of 2010.

Interesting … the Countryman seems to be, as predicted, taking away sales from the Clubman (not much though it seems). The convertible is taking a hit though.

On the BMW side big drop for the 7 series. I wonder if the Panamera has anything to do with it. That car seems to be everywhere around NYC. Seems like the hot large luxo sedan to get.

I’m from the East Coast, I have a college edjumacation [sic], and I drive a MINI Convertible. OMG! I really am elitist! ;)

Placed my order for my JCW Cooper on April 9th, still hasen’t gone into production. If it doesn’t go into production within the next couple of weeks I will just take my business to a diffrent brand. I don’t understand why mini encourages you to sign up for the owner’s lounge to get information on where you build is at but the site NEVER updates. Mini has to know when the plan on starting production on my car so the least they could do is update the site and tell me. That would be better that hearing my car is scheduled for production with no confirmed start date over and over and over…

Call your motoring advisor. They should have updated information.

Yes.. call Motoring Advisor or 866-Ask-MINI

Mini produces series of JCWs every two months (they sell very few…)

It is my understanding they do a production run of JCW’s once a month, around the begining of the month.

i believe it, arround here i counted 22 minis TODAY…in an area that last year it was rare to see another mini. I actually pulled up to light and 3 other mini’s pulled up, it was an intersection of mini’s….I have never, ever, ever seen that before. I dont even think corolas&civic owners have had that happen…its annoying because these people bought it for the milage not for the car, if i wave or flash my lights they just keep on driving. Its ashaim its become a very very common car, sadly this will probably be the last mini i own. I miss the exclusivity of the car and what the brand used to be

I tip my hat to you sir. You are elitist.

Don’t hate me because I’m successful…

C’mon people, buy a Clubman! Make it an S!

Just bought one!

The good news here is that the coupe is increasing in sales as well….

My third MINI arrives in the local harbor tomorrow.

With sales growth like that I am surprised they continue to offer purchase incentives of low finance rate and free package or AT. One of the reasons I chose MINI was the high retained value. Fortunately I purchased a couple months ago and got a good deal, but that deal looks less good each month they keep the incentives in place. I am afraid increased sales volume and incentives will drop the MINI from it’s perch as a resale value leader.
