Good news for grassroots MINI racing fans. GRAND AM has announced upcoming dates for the 2012 racing season that include Spec-B racing events. With a Spec-B MINI race car available right “out of the box” so to speak, we’re hoping to see lots of MINIs out on the track at these events (full list after the break).

If one had the money to participate, would he have the time off? It didn’t occur to me earlier that these would be nationwide and I’d have a 2 day drive each way to the west coast events and a 1.5 day drive to any NE/Midwest event. So I’d have to take nearly 2 weeks of vacation to run the season. I guess if I got tons of sponsorships I could quit my job 🙂 So this is probably a much cheaper entry into racing, but still out of reach of many people with full time J.O.B’s. Now, if I found someone who was unemployed and had a racing license…. Hmmmm….

Still, can’t wait to see MINIs tearing it up! I wonder how they’ll look next to the competition after they’ve been de-tuned?

This is the exact reason why Grand-Am says the series will be focused on individual race wins, not winning ‘the series’.

Additionally, these are only the newly announced Grand Am races. There are 3-4 races scheduled with the Pirelli World Challenge series, as well as races all over the country through NASA. Of course, there are always classes to run in in SCCA, as well, although they unfortunately didn’t create B-Spec it’s own class like the others did.

Well definitely be at NJMP in May for this. Looking forward to seeing some racing I may be able to take part in eventually. Can’t wait to get some pics.
