At the North American International Auto Show, Gabe and I had the chance to sit down with MINI USA’s head Jim McDowell and Marketing leader Tom Salkowski. We talk about Jim’s expanded role with MINI in the Americas (North and South) as well as the state of the MINI brand in 2013 here in its largest market. And then there are the surprises. From a big event announcement to a hint at a new options it’s well worth a listen.

I want to know what the model feature they’re announcing is going to be. Any guesses?

Still hoping for the oatmeal-powered jetpack!

I’m guessing auto-start/stop.

I’m wondering if it’s more connected features. Maybe android support? Although oatmeal jet pack is cool….perhaps with chocolate chip boost?

Nathaniel & Gabe – nice job on the interview. Always good to hear from the Mini heads about what’s on tap for Mini. Next time you visit with Dr. Segler and company, PLEASE ask them to consider adding/offering Mini Connect for the GP. It wouldn’t add an ounce of fat on the car! Even Dr. Segler admitted in the MF interview that Mini owners actually use this feature. Mini Connect is offered on every Mini, why not the GP? Track car or street car, it would be real nice having that feature and connectivity for a Mini that I will own for a VERY long time. Thanks again for the great job Motoring File is doing!
