For 2024 MINI is introducing an entirely new product range that will include both electric and petrol powered models. Due to various global regulations, every market is handling this launch differently MINI USA included. To help with all this confusion we’ve worked with MINI USA to detail every single model, its start of production and when we’ll see them at dealers.
1st Wave: U25 Countryman S, JCW & F66 Cooper S
Starting the product onslaught will be the petrol powered U25 MINI Countryman S, Countryman JCW and the F66 MINI Cooper S. US Spec models will begin production in March of 2024 with a market launch of May. There likely will be exact on-sale date supplied by MINI USA in the first half of May.
Each dealer will receive several launch cars that will represent each model with the idea that they’ll be available for test drives and as a way to help potential buyers sort out models and options.
2nd Wave: U25 Countryman SE, F66 MINI Cooper & F65 Cooper S 4 Door
The 2nd wave of this changeover will include the first new electric product to hit US shores. The electric Countryman SE (which we recently reviewed) will begin production in July with an official market launch happening early September.
The F66 Cooper (with its uniquely US spec four cylinder engine) will finally begin production and make it to dealers in the same timeframe. Along side of it will be the introduction of another new model, the F65 Cooper S four door hatch.
3rd Wave: F67 Cooper Convertible, F65 Cooper 4 Door & F66 Cooper JCW
The 3rd wave will round out the year with some of the most anticipated models. MINI will begin production of the Convertible in all models (the Cooper, Cooper S and JCW) in November with a market introduction in January of 2025. They will be joined by the Cooper four door and finally (the one we’ve been waiting for) the F66 Cooper JCW.
What Isn’t Coming to the US
The biggest omission is the J01 MINI Cooper. The entirely new electric J01 is MINI’s first car on a bespoke electric platform and will have a dramatic range increase over the outgoing F56 based Cooper SE. However due to its Chinese origins and the heavy tariffs the US in place, there’s no economic viability in bringing it to the US. At least not yet. In 2026 MINI will expand production to the UK, paving the way for possible US imports.
The MINI Aceman will follow the J01 with initial Chinese production, expanding to the UK in 2026 for possible US imports.
But that’s not all that MINI USA is not importing. There will be no use models Countryman C nor any front wheel drive Countryman S models. Due to take-rates in the US, MINI USA has removed them from the line-up entirely.

I’m a little nervous about buying the all-electric Countryman in the first year of its existence; I was an early adopter of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which had tons of problems for me and which I’m finally moving on from. I’m happily in the gas-version (2020, used) Countryman right now and I’m wondering if the word on the street is that Mini will follow the 2025 all-electric Countryman with a 2026 version that gets even more battery range. Or is that fairy-dust wishful on my part?
There will likely not be a material change in range until 2028. Personally I would not let that stop me from getting something in 2024.
