Who ever drove a Mini says, drives like a kart, lies on the road like a kart and steers like a kart.
But now Mini made one that is a kart. Even more extreme than the existing models. This is the Mini Cooper S Works GP.
Then he says something about the specs. I think you all know those. Things like: 218bhp, 1,6 liter compression motor, 250Nm torque, in 6,5 seconds from stand still to 100km/hour, top of 235 km/hour.
They say something about the strong brakes, the bigger spoiler for aerodynamics, the sideskirts for better air stream, the bigger front bumper for less turbulence, the 18 inch wheels of 9,5 kg a piece, the rear axle is partially of aluminium, no airconditioning which saves 15 kg and no rear seats, which makes it a 2 seater.
Then they drive the GP.
Bertona builds the GP, not Mini. 2000 GP’s will be made. 20 GP’s are delivered to The Netherlands, all of them have allready been sold and 6 people are on the waiting list who just have to have one. They cost 34.000 euro a piece.
I left some tiny bits of information out, but nothing which is very interesting I think.
They all have AC. They all have heated seats. Really … imagine …
It was a dark and stormy night. A light burns through the fog in Oxford. In the light we see as Cooper Jr. stands amidst several MINI engineers, ties loosened, cuffs rolled up.
“We’ve dropped weight, upped the horsepower, brakes, suspension, but there must be more.”
“Heated seats” cries a voice from the background.
“Heated seats” the chant rises above the assembled, the overlooked high performance accessory.
“Colin Chapman. You magnificent bstrd. I read your book !”
It was right under our … er … noses the whole time.
Colin Chapman rotates in his grave (neatly clipping the apex). But, alas, with a cold butox.
Let’s try again…
I can’t see this movie again after this :S
Watched it like 15 times for a good translation.

Then they talk about less weight, the brakes to control the bhp, aerodynamics with the bigger spoiler, side skirts for better airflow on the rear end of the car, bigger front bumper for less turbulence, 18 inch wheels GP only weigh only 9,5kg each, no airconditioning means another 15kg less, rear axle is partially made of aluminium, no backseat so the GP is a two seater.
The GP isn’t build by Mini, but by Bertone in Italy, 2000 will be made, 20 for the Netherlands. All 20 have been sold without one ever having seen the showroom(He suggests maybe as an investment?). There’s a waitinglist of 6 people who just have to have one. At 34.000 euro each not a cheap car, but a lot of driving fun.
My only question is, are these past the break in period? Or are these special ones that will get crushed later? Is someone actually going to buy these beat and tested mules? I am very funny about buying a “new car” with more than 10 miles on it. I believe cars are considered new with less than 250 miles or until they get driven off the lots, which ever come first. Something like that.
But I do have to admit that if I were given the opportunity, I would have driven it just like these guys did. Fun, fun.
I’m guessing the ‘slightly used’ cars will have their tyres replaced, a good clean down, the odometer zeroed, and sold as new, or at very least, demo cars.
Can’t see them crushing 10 or so of a run of just 2000. Wouldnt make any kind of economic sense.
Would have been good if someone at the Italian test session had noted the roof numbers of those being thrashed….
i think it may have been only me, but this guy had the most annoying voice ive ever heard. i had to put the speakers to mute to prevent me from killing myself. Nice Mini though!
You know, besides the guy presenting it, it is also a shame that they play that tune while they are driving the GP. If you hear it roar for those couple of seconds, you just want to hear more, don’t you?

I really appreciated your post, this would really provide the great information .Thanks for sharing.

Those Germans sure know great rock & roll!

Dude, Germans speak German 😉 Dutch is from the Netherlands.
Those Dutch sure know great rock and roll!
(Danke Eelke)
Potent and a bargain —- but fugly in any language.
I noticed the engine modifications…. the intercooler cover is Black, not silver, as per usual Works cars….
None of our Dutch friends care to translate for us, give us the gist of his comments…?
hmm, I’m being asked for a username & password…guess I’ll try it from home.
Love “Breedband” 🙂

Now I posted it again… ARGH…
Sorry 😀
At least you have it now 😉
Demelza, Your english is superb.

Demelza you are a god!

hear that mini accelerate out of the end of the pit lane intoxicating in any language
Stuff that – no way those thrashed motors can be placed to the public. Hopefully they will become demonstrators at some BM dealer in Germany!
If anyone is going to turn my GP into a smoking wreck it will be me! From now on I am checking roof numbers on the cars used for the reviews!
That had to be the cheesest background Music for a sweet car like the GP… Its like putting autozone door stripping on your MINI.

Demelza you are a god!
Make that a goddess ;)

Oh my god I think I have fallen in love!
i think it may have been only me, but this guy had the most annoying voice ive ever heard. i had to put the speakers to mute to prevent me from killing myself. Nice Mini though!
“Oh my god I think I have fallen in love!”
I’m just to curious…
With the GP or me? 😉
You know, besides the guy presenting it, it is also a shame that they play that tune while they are driving the GP. If you hear it roar for those couple of seconds, you just want to hear more, don’t you?
With you of course!
