For those that following MotoringFile, this isn’t anything particularly new. It’s just now official.
Official MINI USA Press Release: MINI USA and SIRIUS announce that SIRIUS is available as a factory installed option with a lifetime subscription on the all-new 2007 MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S hardtops produced beginning this June. And the lifetime subscription stays with the car from one owner to the next.
The factory-installed option will be available for an MSRP of $950, which includes the lifetime subscription. MINI USA will also offer SIRIUS with the lifetime subscription, as part of its upgraded Audio Pack that also includes MINI’s Hi-Fi sound system, for an MSRP of just $1,400.
“We are excited to offer our customers factory-installed SIRIUS radio with a lifetime subscription.” said Rich Steinberg, head of MINI Product Strategy, “Now it makes the choice even easier for them to enjoy SIRIUS Satellite Radio in their new MINI.”
“With over 130 channels of the Best Radio on Radio, SIRIUS offers the ultimate choice in satelilite radio” said Doug Wilsterman, Senior Vice President, and General Manager OEM Division for Sirius. “By including a “lifetime” subscription, owners can listen to SIRIUS for as long as they own their MINI.”
Any word on dealer installs, Gabe?
Of course, my Mini is 3 weeks too late! 🙂 Oh well…
I did get this from MiniUSA today, but we know how reliable they can be sometimes:
Jeff,
You vehicle is pre-wired for Sirius Satellite radio. You will need to speak to the parts department at your local MINI dealer about the cost of any additional parts and activation of Sirius Satellite Radio, but it is now available.
I hope this answers your questions! If there are further questions I can assist with, please feel free to drop me an e-mail. I will be happy to lend a hand.
LET’S MOTOR.
Patrick”
Gabe… XM and Sirius recently announced they will merge… How will this effect the lifetime subscription? Will the price of this option go up?
You can not add the SIRIUS radio option in the configurator….yet.
My MA and parts department still know nothing about adding the Sirius as an aftermarket install, and the best info they have is August. The parts guy was a little put out (not by me) that Mini USA tells people this stuff before they have any idea what’s going on.
So, at any rate, I hope no one’s in any rush to buy what should be a very easily installed (and useful!) feature… I believe most of the Minis being build currently are pre-wired for Sirius so all you need is the reciever popped in and a subscription.
Gabe? Anything more? 🙂
I called various Mini parts departments on the East coast and was told the following:
$750 for the part, and 5 hours of labor install!
This puts it over $1000 for dealer installed. This is very costly. The car does have an aux input and you can hard wire through fuse box.
