For about a dollar you can rent and MINI Cooper, MINI Cooper Clubman or a Smart car in Toronto. What’s the catch? The cars are covered with ads.
>CityFlitz, Toronto’s newest auto-sharing company, showcased its $1 a day rental program in Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square yesterday.
>Its premise is simple: Drive around the city at least 30 kilometers a day in a car plastered with advertising, which heavily subsidizes the cost of the rental.
Even covered with ads, I’m pretty sure I’d rather drive a MINI than ride the bus.
While in europe a few yews back I came across a lot where they had SMART cars for rent, no people present. You just put your credit card in the door slot and the door opened. Drove the car for the day and then parked the car in that same lot or others around that city closed the door and place your credit card back in the door slot and viola you were done.
For those not living in Canada, the Canadian dollar coin has a picture of a loon on one side of it. Hence the term loonie as the coin’s nickname.
I wonder how much Yahoo paid to have its logo plastered all over that car (er Clubman). Interesting concept. I’m sure the user is responsible for buying his/her own insurance.
So, loonie does not equal lunatic then? Or maybe it does 😉
I’d like to rent one for a year, please.

A Loonie is a Canadian dollar (image of a loon on one side). I wish I still lived in Toronto!

Wish they have here in the US. I don’t mind driving the car for a dollar a day!
