….must….buy….lottery ticket…
I’ve never really wanted to own a black vehicle, but as I’ve said before Gabe…your car is stunning.
Wow, finally pulled the trigger did we? No matter how you look at it, it’s a tough decision to make and I applaud you for having the gumption to do it. Maybe we’ll see you flying around the Dragon in a baby seat equipped R60 soon enough.
Good luck and all the best – James
Upgrading to a 2009 factory JCW, or secretly coming back to an R53????????
😉
Gabe has a child now;
Minivan!
But seriously, a BMW 5 series wagon, or (this is a long shot), a JCW Clubman.
He’s getting an M version of the X6. LOL!
Good luck with the sale, Gabe. Let us know what you really end up with.
I thought Gabe was gaga over the 135i? Great car though… gotta love it!
Best of luck with your next vehicle Gabe!
>Upgrading to a 2009 factory JCW, or secretly coming back to an R53????????
No I’m actually going to be without a car for a little while. Not quite sure what I’ll get eventually. I’m going to enjoy my 3 series and public transportation.
>I thought Gabe was gaga over the 135i? Great car though… gotta love it!
I thought about it but I don’t have a huge need for one right now. Probably in the future though.
>But seriously, a BMW 5 series wagon, or (this is a long shot), a JCW Clubman.
JCW Clubman would be great but again not a huge need for something that would ultimately be $40k equipped the way I’d want.
In a heartbeat would buy this car from you Gabe if I had any room remaining in my garage, great price and a very sharp car.
You could probably buy the CTA EL for the same money!
But the steering wheel is on the wrong side, haha!
Good luck with the sale and everything else.
dark days are upon us in deed.
the king is dead.
long live the king.
and best wishes
My condolences. I just sold my 2005 MCS and let it go for only $19K. I am still sick over it.
I just keep telling myself, “It’s just a hunk of metal…”
Hey Gabe you have to mention the Factory Personalised (by me) MF Sticker on the door 😉
You can’t sell it, I bloody built it!
>Hey Gabe you have to mention the Factory Personalised (by me) MF Sticker on the door 😉 You can’t sell it, I bloody built it!
That’s right – I should have put that in there. Signed by the builder! Honestly that’s one of those little things that has made it so hard to part with this car. It’s absolutely perfect and everything I’ve ever wanted in a MINI. I just keep telling myself that I can always get another down the road.
I am more than sure Billy would be happy to help put another together for you Gabe. I have to say yours is still one of the best looking R56’s that I’ve seen. Can only imagine how difficult this will be to part with.
Any pictures of the engine compartment or the rust under the door sill gaskets?
^^^I thought that was an R53 thing
I have a two year old, and he’s been riding in back of my MCS to day care every day right from the start. No problem, except he keeps shouting “Mario Kart” on the twisties.
No 135i :(, now this is not going to be a gabelist site.lol
Tesla anyone?
Wow. Im amazed. Nuf said.
>Any pictures of the engine compartment or the rust under the door sill gaskets?
The rust under the door sills was an R53 thing. Besides, this one has been garaged since the day it was brought home. It’s seen very little moisture.
The engine compartment looks just like any other JCW engine kit. Big airbox and JCW individually numbered plaque on the block.
You know $30,000 is about £16,600 here in the UK, little over the starting price for a bog standard Cooper S – if it was RHD it would be a bargain worth shipping over the pond!
Gabe, any steps towards saving some cash in transportation expenses are surely a welcome thing in this economy.
I would think a Clubman would be a good sensible choice in the future but if you have the “luxury” of good public transportation and can get by with just one vehicle, I think it is a good idea.
Miami unfortunately lacks a developed public transportation infrastructure and any household with at least 3 people must have 2 cars to move around.
Best of luck with the sale.
Gabe, your MINI is truly a stunning car. It really is so well put together. Every choice you made was spot on.
It is SHOCKING how much of a difference your after market rims make in the look of the car versus the winter rims you run on your car. Night and day difference! Aside from the handling differences.
Good luck on the sale.
Gabe your car is perfect and a bargain for 30K.
Everybody stop saying spot on unless you’re from England.
umm, don’t you have your milage for the JCW engine kit and suspension kit reversed? For some reason I recall the suspension went in first – didn’t you do a track day with the suspension pre engine kit?

Everybody stop saying spot on unless you’re from England.

Not from England, but we are talking about a British car. Therefore I think and exemption is called for. 🙂
Gabe, thanks for sharing this milestone with us. That is the finest MINI config I’ve seen.
Does that mean on the BMW site we can say UHNGLAUBICH!
I am sure the future owner will get a “bargain”. It’s stunning MINI I have seen so far.
greg, you spelled “unglaublich” wrong! 😉
Gabe, good luck with the sale. The car is a beaut. Just FYI, the design flaw that caused the rust issues for the first generation MINI’s has not been corrected on the new models. You may want to check under the sills, just for $hits and giggles, even though your car hasn’t seen a lot of moisture and has been garaged, I’m sure it’s been washed frequently, and my bet is you will have moisture under the sills. Again, best of luck with the sale.
Gabe, I live in Chicago, and maybe very interested. I have been looking at all the local dealers this week, but nothing can hold a candle to this. My primary car was recently totaled by a negligent driver and owning a black mini has been a dream of mine for some time. I am anticipating a payoff for my previous car this week. Please let me know if it is still available, and if so, shoot me a message.

I have checked a few times and there’s nothing there.
I see a BMW 135i in your future.
“Sport Suspension $500”
Gabe, If I remember correctly, you said you had the standard suspension on the car when it was new before you added the JCW suspension. Am I correct?
So – is this the top story until it sells?
Somebody buy this thing!!! 😛
Wicked sorry to see you part with it, Gabe.
>Gabe, If I remember correctly, you said you had the standard suspension on the car when it was new before you added the JCW suspension. Am I correct?
Corrected. This info came directly from my build sheet but I did change a couple things last second (the HiFi and the Sport suspension since I was getting the JCW)
lilcooper. I’m just a teutonic wannabe. That was the only german thing I know that isn’t dirty.
Why is it that when I hover over the picture of Gabe’s car it says “R57”? Is that a hint about your next purchase, Gabe?
Gabe’s next ride will be something substantial…. I anticipate something with four wheels and a sport suspension. It may even have an engine with a bump up in performance (from the factory). Maybe it will even have navigation and heated seats for those cold Chicago winters. Seating in the rear to accommodate a child seat and have room for an an adult as well. The real question you should be asking is how many doors does it have! LOL 🙂
Still holding onto my April 2002 R50 MCS – already 6.5 yrs old and still rumbling along. It has been (and still is) very reliable, flexible plus has that extra horsepower when you need it. I’ve only had to replace a few trim pieces, battery, tyres and control arm bushes. Good fuel economy at 7L/100km (33.6 mpg).
I’m not looking at getting rid of it soon but want to get a second cheap vehicle to keep the mileage down. Have heard that the JCW uses more gas though and can be bought second hand generally for a good price.
All the best with your sale.

Corey – The car is still available. Lots of interest but no deposit yet.
Have no worry Gabe….I am sure sooner or later the lucky one will buy your car. If I only have the means… 🙁
I understand how hard it is. I just traded my 05 MCS 3 weeks ago, and I already regret it and am constantly on the MINI configurator building my next baby.
I give you 10 dollah! Good price!!
Where are you located? I gotta give this one some thought..
I’m in Chicago and about 20 minutes away from Ohare if you’re flying in.
Gabe,
I am very interested in your car; I am currently in Iraq. I am due back in November. I am an Illinois resident and will be flying back there in November from San Diego once I return. I would be back Illinois the third or fourth week of November to pick the car up. How much of a deposit would you require to hold the car until I return. This is a serious offer; I have a 09 JCW on order right now but would drop my order in a heartbeat to take the car off of your hands. Please let me know.
Lance
If Lance is a serviceman, I say to him THANK YOU!!!! and God bless you!
>If Lance is a serviceman, I say to him THANK YOU!!!! and God bless you!
He is and it looks like he’ll be the new owner as things stand now.
Congrats to Lance! I am confident he will not regret it. I stop by at Patrick MINI last weekend and saw a JCW MINI ; not fully loaded like non leather seat, non-navigation etc. and the MSRP is already $32,000! It’s by no means no near to Gabe’s car.
given the state of the economy does anyone think mini dealers will start negotiating a little more
Greg,
Thanks for your kind words. I appreciate the support of those who those who extend it. It’s often a hard pill to swallow when some folks back home are a little less than supportive. I’ve been in the Marine Corps for the past seventeen and a half years now and enjoy what I do on a daily basis.
I am very much looking forward to getting back home for more than a couple reasons now. I look forward to the cross country drive in the Mini. It is going to be a pleasure being a part of such a great family of supporters. I look forward to many more articles and updates via this forum.
Lance
All thanks to YOU my friend. I hold a MINI event in Cleveland each year at a place called the Pub. We get around 100 Minis each year and it’s a blast. I invite ALL M.F. people to attend the next one 6/6/09 but Lance if you bring your new Mini I will personally pay for your hotel room as well as dinner at the Pub for you and your companion. It will be my honor. Semper Fi!
Lance has bought the car. I’ve had people from all over North America call and email – thanks for all the interest everyone.
Congratulations to both buyer and seller!
Man it took me three months to sell my similar ’07 JCW. Gabe sells his in 10 minutes.
For the record I had five leads from the MF posting and four from one day on cars.com (most very serious). I litterally had people interested from all over the world.
Wow. This is such a happy deal!
