A very vintage Top Gear celebrated Mini’s win 1964 at the Monte Carlo Rally way back in 1994. Yes that’s the 30th anniversey complete with 90’s era pop references which we may or may not understand. Regardless it’s a great piece (in two parts) that catelogues exactly why the win was so impressive.
Part One

…wow Gabe. I didn’t know there was a,”vintage”,Top Gear;however,if there were 2 videos that would make a person sign up for the MTTS 2010,it would be these 2,lol…

As usual,great job…

Nosotros,www.unitedmini.com,hemos revivido,ésta semana en Rally de Montecarlo, con un R50/R53 Y R56,que pasada revivir esa emociones!!!!!!

Gabe. great clips of Paddy just loved watching it. But why did they not use a current MINI?

Amazing how similar that Mini Cooper rally car sounds like a modern R53 MINI Cooper S.

Excellent rally footage in the second vid as well, featuring Sainz, Auriol, Delecour, and McRae. Based on this vid, I prefer Top Gear back then — seemed much more straight up and less gimmicky than today’s show.

@ Micah – Yup one of the cool things about the R53 is that the supercharger whine is remarkably similar to the whine from the dog-cut gearbox in the classic Mini rally cars.

@ Art; because the event shown was in 1993. New MINI didn’t come out until 2001.

I just received my Sport 500 yesterday. It is a blast. It is if you knew!
