MINI Shows off the Coupe’s Junk in the Trunk

Forget for a second that the MINI Coupe is a two seater. Instead think about it this way – it’s like a MINI match without the rear seats. Sound familiar? Yeah a little but like a JCW GP. And as a GP owner will tell you, it’s shocking how much you can fit into the boot. And MINI wants to make sure everyone knows that about the Coupe as well. And as you can see above and after the break, the pictures do all the talking.

Official Release: With its sporting genes and allegiance to the cause of maximum driving fun, the MINI Coupé delivers a thrillingly focused driving experience. The first two-seater in its line-up sees MINI not only breathe new life into its successful racing history but also provide a shot in the arm for the super-compact sports car class. The MINI Coupé indulges the keen driver with a level of agility unmatched in the small car segment, along with a unique body and interior concept and the brand’s customary commitment to premium levels of design, quality, equipment and customisation.
A two-seater with space for more.
The MINI Coupé highlights its pure-bred, compact sports car character with oval recesses in the roof liner. Plus, standard-fitted sports seats offer outstanding lateral support through briskly-taken corners. Further back, an extremely high-opening tailgate and large luggage area with through-loading facility give the MINI Coupé outstanding versatility on the urban race track. No other MINI before it has offered so much load space for those creative road trips with a lucky other.
The spacious boot has a capacity of 280 litres and offers enough room to swallow a large number of luggage items available from the MINI Lifestyle Collection. From the robust, hard-shell Rooftop series cases to easy-going Black Jack luggage and retro bags from the Shout range, MINI conjures up the right gear for any trip. These clever luggage solutions are available at www.MINI.de/shop and selected MINI dealers.
An athlete in peak form.
Its flat silhouette and innovative “helmet roof” lend the MINI Coupé a sporty and individual allure. In addition to the integral roof spoiler, an active rear spoiler optimises airflow at higher speeds. The MINI Coupé can be ordered with the most powerful petrol and diesel engines in the brand’s arsenal.
Outputs range from the 90 kW/122 hp of the MINI Cooper Coupé via the MINI Cooper SD Coupé (105 kW/143 hp) and MINI Cooper S Coupé (135 kW/184 hp) all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé, a thoroughbred athlete producing 155 kW/211 hp.

Not sure if cargo space was the prime motivator for eitehr the GP or the Coupe. Impressive room still for the size of the car. For me both more are about the feel though the wheel and the seat of my pants lol.

I kinda forgot…is the Coupe the same length as the standard MINI?

From the beltline down its a R57 so, yes its the same length

I wonder what the GP owners will think of the line “the first two seater in the line-up”…. My how quickly we forget!

I don’t know if I’m aging or if MINI is moving away from me. More and more of the language is about image and less and less is about the content of the cars. Does anyone really care that MINI offers not one but two different luggage lines? Heck, most serious travelers know that luggage gets beat all to heck, and paying premium to have a MINI logo on it….. Well, whatever.

I’m getting less and less enamored with the marketing choices that the brand is making. But here in the US, either it’s working or it doesn’t matter, because they’re currently low on inventory.

Personal take on it is that the GP is not considered a normal production model. The first two-seat and highest top speed both forget that the GP existed. Looking forward to a short and long term comparison once ours comes in.

The marketing produced image is just nonsense to me too. The recent happy sales figures are the product (my view) of the car selling itself once someone has a close encounter. If this sort of campaign gets people into the showroom I guess it’s a classic case of “means to an end”. But, jeez louise Edith! What a bunch of crapola.
PS. Really, that’s just why a guy buys a two seater, to carry lots of stuff. OK, best of both worlds then. Carry on.

will two sets of golf clubs fit back there?

I have to agree with the Dr O on some of what he’s saying as I too find less and less I’d buy. My 2004 now has 80,000+ on it and though fine now there will come a time when it will need stuff. Right now I don’t see anything I like better, well that I can afford, other than the Abarth 500.

Does anyone know if this is Pepper white or not

the main picture is.

It’s not Pepper white – it’s White Silver (the official launch color).

I think i need to calibrate my monitor colors. My MINI is White Silver and the pic looked more pepper white to me.

I, for one, am really excited by the idea that the Coupe has a lot of luggage space.

As seeing the coupe in person awhile back, it does have allot of room in the back. That was one thing in addition to the rear wing that was cool to see.

Remember that MINI luggage has always been a special item, I have the Samsonite 3 piece and the Mandarina Duck Luggage. Its a collector piece that for sure, I use mine every vacation and have people tell me how nice it is.

Dear MINI, please add a backpack to your luggage line!

With that large hatch opening it will interesting to see how water tight that seal remains as the seal ages.

Well, since the Coupe’s size is the same as an R57, and there are only 2 seats, why wouldn’t there be more cargo room??? Seems obvious 2 me …

yeah, it does seem obvious. I just went on a road trip with my ’06, seats folded, one other passenger and there was just enough space for all of our stuff with room to see out the back window. Without the seats at all there certainly would have been more room.
