Recently MINI launched the all new MINI Countryman in its home market of the UK and simultaneously released the best photos yet of the new crossover. In fact this set of photos is so good we had to pause all other stories we’re working on and just show you how great the new Countryman looks on British B roads.
Some quick background. In the UK the Countryman is launching as both internal combustion and fully electric. As with the rest of the world the plugin hybrid is gone from the market and in its place a full electric model range. BMW’s thinking is that this gives a broader choice to the consumer and focuses MINI more on where its headed which of course is full electrified.
In the UK the petrol powered 170 hp Countryman C starts at £29,335. This is joined by the 218 hp Countryman S £34,725 and the 300 hp JCW at £41,520. The EV range was simpler. The 204 hp Countryman E (range 277-286) starts at £42,080 and the 313 hp Countryman SE (range 256-262) starts at £49,680.
You can read our full review of the MINI Countryman JCW and watch the video review below. We’ll have our review of the electric Countryman SE next week.
I mean it isn’t like light-trucks are a completely oversaturated stale market where everyone is not competing for any other segment of the market, because f consumer choice…oh wait, that is exactly what is going on.
We have been whiling away the past ten weeks in Malaysia, to escaped the worst of the weather in the Northern Hemisphere. I was interested to note, therefore, that MINI Malaysia enjoyed record sales in 2023. Top seller was the F60 Countryman, which accounted for 62% of all MINI sales in Malaysia, followed by the F56, the majority of which were the MINI Electric, at 26%. Those two models alone accounted for 88% of total MINI sales in Malaysia. The remaining 12% of MINI Malaysia total sales were accounted for by the “also rans”, i.e. the F54 Clubman, F55 4dr and F57 Convertible.
It was no surprise, of course. The F60 was also the best seller in the UK, and the US. The F54 Clubman, on the other hand, was the poorest seller. So, will customer tastes change with the launch of the U25 Aceman? Er …, I need to get back to you on that one!
Just to clarify, J05 MINI Aceman.
Beautiful pictures. I like the contrasting exterior and interior styles of the S and the JCW. The tan Vescin seats, the pixelated fade from orange to blue on the door cards, the vertical red highlights on the front bumper, the blocky wheel design, the rear stance of the vehicle, the friendly MINI frontend, etc. It’s all great stuff.
I’m not completely sold on that plate behind the B pillar, but it definitely looks better in black. The rail and the box that’s meant to replace the center console seems a bit gimmicky as well.
Overall though I think MINI has a hit on its hands. I just hope that interest rates come down or there are some really great leasing deals coming up to tide us over until this inflation mess is subdued.
