It's been a long time in coming but now MCS owners can officially join the chrome grille club. In the past those that wanted the the chrome look had to alter (cut) the MC four-bar chrome grille to get it to fit into the MCS hood. However with this new grille it should be a fairly straightforward installation. Here's the actual text from the service bulletin (supplied by an internal source):
“Aftersales is pleased to announce the release of a chrome grille for the MINI Cooper S. Available in the same three-bar pattern as the factory-equipped body coloured grille, the new chrome piece is an easy install and is sure to brighten up any Cooper S. It's attention grabbing styling lends a unique look.”
Here are the part numbers:
Grille (upper) – 51 13 7 122 473 – $72.25
Grille (lower) – 51 11 7 032 900 – $24.25

Although it looks nice (would look best on silver or dark silver), do I really want an MCS looking like a MC with an air intake or vice versa, since there are aftermarket bonnets for the MC with an air intake on the hood to make it look like you own a MCS.

Many people I've spoken to (as well as many on the forums) have often wished that the chrome grille was available for the MCS as well as the MC. I think many people like the fact that it's more historically accurate follows the original Mini design better. I don't think it's a question of looking like an MC (nothing wrong with that of course :)) since the MCS has a distinct front bumper, front air intake, side sills, and rear diffuser/central exhaust to take care of that.

Ever since the the first photos of MCS were officially released many people have been asking about this option. I'm glad to see it's finally available.

I hope that the 3 bar Chrome front grille becomes available as a no cost option on the 2004 MCS. Either way, I will make sure that the car is fitted with it by the time it gets delivered. I much prefer it over the standard MCS body colored slats grille.

Does anyone know if the 3 slat Chrome front grille will be offered as an option on the 2004 MCS?

I believe it will just be offered as an aftermarket option like the current black honeycomb grille.

I bought these parts from my dealer but am unsure of how to instal. Anybody have any info on this

Does anyone know of a company that manufactures aftermarket black honeycome upper grill for Cooper S?

Abraham,
I found this site that sells the black honeycomb grill:
