Video: Watch a 160 hp Classic Mini Attack the Ring
A hot VTEC 4-cylinder motor in a classic Mini is nothing new to most Mini and MINI fans. Nor is one blasting around the Nürburgring. This video, however, is a little different than most of the ones I’ve seen in the past as it’s from an onboard perspective. So click on through, because there’s 9:41 of classic Mini fury after the jump.

A VTEC classic Mini is no longer a Mini. It’s a street rod – kind of like a Corvette engine in a Honda Civic. Once the A-series engine leaves the Mini, it’s no longer a real Mini.

He (Achim) raced famed German race car driver Sabine Schmitz on the Nurburgring in a challenge in 2007. Sabine first drove a R56 S Cooper vs Achim’s Ring Mini and then Sabine drove a Porsche Carrera S. The R56 lost badly – Achim won by 10 seconds. In the Posche Carrera S race, Sabine won by about 9 seconds but there were stretches that the Ring Mini kept up with the Porsche. If you want to see the race (vs both cars) here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaYaSWyrE2M (it’s in German)

Love the “self adjusting” rear view mirror and that big clunky set of keys a-danglin’! Great pass/catch/powerslide @ Klostertal – 5:50. That may not have been the fastest lap but on that particular one he was certainly the passer and never the passee.

Is it sad that I recognize most of these turns from the Gran Turismo games?…

no, but sad that your not playing it on Forza Motorsport 4

Still must be nice to travel distance without a head gasket ;)

We’ve featured that before on MF but it’s well worth another watch even if you’ve seen it. Thanks for the link!
