Jack Daniels, a driving force behind modern motoring thanks to his work on the Morris Minor and the original Mini, has died aged 92.
Oxford-born Mr Daniels was affectionately known as the man who was the “90 per cent perspiration behind the 10 per cent inspiration” of car designer Alec Issigonis and was also the first MG apprentice at the company's first factory in Cowley, Oxford.

<p>I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Daniels in the UK at 1999's “Mini in the Park” celebrating the Mini's 40th birthday. He was a very nice guy and seemed to really appreciate all the fans of the classic Mini.</p>
<p>dammit, i always get so emotional when great people die, but i guess john cooper,alec issognis, and now jack daniels are all competing in that great garage in the sky…hey mr. cooper, can you rain your new braking kit and cold air intake down on me for Christmas?</p>
<p>I guess “We Motor on the shoulders of giants” wouldn't quite sound right, but it's more true than the traditional 'stand'…</p>
