MINIUSA is currently surveying both owners of MINIs and non-owners who have expressed interest in MINIs. The survey introduction is delivered via email and is designed and administered by 6Gear, an automotive email/web based research company out of San Fransico.
The survey lasts roughly 30 minutes and deals with everything from brand perceptions to what type of vehicle we'd like to see in MINI showrooms of the future.
All told it's interesting to see MINIUSA actively requesting feedback on the future of the car from owners and non-owners a like. This would imply that they might be possibly reaching out to non-owners with a vehicle that is a bit more mainstream. That could mean simply a MINI wagon, a MINI 4 door, or some sort of cross over vehicle, perhaps a Mini Moke for the 21st century.
We've seen something like this implied several times by sources but to see MINI actively seeking feedback on just this type of vehicle is very telling.
After the survey some are invited to register for a 3 hour hands on session where you're invited to help shape future MINIs. Perhaps we'll have news about the out come of those sessions in the months ahead.

Gee, I hope this one lets you fill it out without having to run IE on Windows (unlike BMWNA/MINIUSA's surveys)

How can I take this survey?

Yes – it worked on Safari 1.2 just fine.

The survey is sent via email and then taken on the web. It seems to be fairly targeted based on who's gotten it so far so I can't tell you if you'll actually get the email or not.

I received two emails regarding the survey. The first one was a “qualifying” email to determine if I was a “candidate” to receive the survey. I had to answer two questions. If I remember correctly, it asked if I was seriously considering purchasing a MINI or had recently bought one. Then it asked how much research I had done regarding the MINI.

About two days later (yesterday) I received the second email with the private link to the survey. I will fill it out this afternoon.

More later…

I got my survey over last weekend, completed it and returned it. It did have a lot of pictures of cars to ask your opinion of on a scale of 1 to 5. Some were pretty wild and others mundane. They also asked about home interiors. I guess they were trying to determine if you were contemporary, modern, or mountain man. Interesting survey and like I said a lot of pictures to evaluate based on personal taste.

I also received and completed the 6gear/MINIUSA product survey a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting as the survey makes an attempt to creat an accurate psychological profile of current MINI owners. The survey was sent out to a select group of owners via e-mail, people whom MINIUSA believes can provide valuable feedback and information regarding the future direction of the brand and its products. I am very proud to be part of that target group.

I also signed up for the 3 hour future product “workshop” which, if selected, will pay $200 for attending and participating. It is not clear to me however, when these workshops will take place and where (Locally, live webcast or otherwise).

In regard to the future body styles that MINI should offer in addition to the current 3 door hardtop and convertible models, I made a big push in the survey for MINI to resurrect the old “Countryman” or “Traveller” station wagon version in the current R50/53 platform. I think the next model critical for MINI's success as a standalone brand is to introduce a 3 and 5 door station wagon that retains all the prowess and fun of the current hardtop hatchback models in a more “Family” friendly package. A MINI wagon will be the absolute ultimate “Anti-SUV” and “Anti-minivan” statement. We for one, don't like neither type of these “popular” behemoths used by most families today. We want a MINI wagon and strongly believe many current and future MINI owners will love to have one in thier driveways alongside their MINIs.

Is the survey more focused on what you would like to see on future MINIs; or do they discuss problems with current MINIs such as the windshield cracking, Stumble, Yo-Yo, sunroof rattles—-or don't they want to talk about MINI's shortcomings?

I too received the survey on Feb 6. I didn't get a pre-selection survey. I filled out my preferences and sent the completed document onward. I also volunteered for the 'workshop.' It's my understanding that participants will be selected from those who volunteer.

This was a multiple choice survey and a more or less one answer per question survey. The many pages of pictures of concept vehicles reminded me of those at the Auto Show. The answer choices were words like 'ugly' 'stylish' 'cool'
'conservative' etc. You could only chose one word for each pic.

It seemed to be a brand identification demographic survey to me.

I went thru the survey process myself a coupla weeks ago, and pushed for a Countryman-MINI or New Moke, too! The questionaire seemed to be designed more to find demographic groups that MINI appeals to, rather than future models per se, and possibly this will be used for style analysis rather than future variant ideas, but I did my best to push for a wagon. None of the questions were directly about the present MINI, or any owner issues, sorry. In my experience with Manufacturer workshops, the general public is usually alowed input later in the process than earlier, often after the product is pretty much defined. Many of the images shown in this case were “crossover” type vehicles – and many had a Small SUV look to 'em, which could indicate MINI is leaning in a “Moke”-direction. Time will tell, eh?

how do i do this survey

Unfortunately, this is the kind of email I throw away. A second party asking to confirm my email adress etc. I did get it back and have applied to take the survey.

I was asked to take this survey as a person who did NOT buy a MINI, but I DID buy a MINI. I went ahead and took it anyway 😉 btw I used safari also without a problem. I also registered for the $200 survey.
