There seems to be quite a lot of confusion on the Cooper and Hyper Blue. For the record Hyper Blue will be available on the Cooper in the US market for 1/05 builds and beyond. This was announced initially in an internal memo from MINIUSA back on May 14th and has been mentioned a couple times since in official internal information. It's still unclear if other markets will follow suit as this was initially intended to be an MCS only color.
Our guess is that MINIUSA believed that having no “medium” blue on the Cooper line would be a detriment to sales. With Purple Haze replacing the beloved Indi Blue that would have left the Cooper with a hole in a popular color spectrum for the traditionally conservative US market. While Purple Haze will certainly be popular among some, it is still quite purple – especially on a sunny day and not really a substitute for blue.

“Purple Haze”….”Black Eye Purple” to the rest of the MINI world…isn't really all that purple. Saw it on an 05 MC on display at Laguna Seca this past weekend. I had expected more purple than blue. Oh well. I stioll think it should be called “Domestic Violet” in the US

Charlie, did you see it in bright sunlight? I did, at MINI of San Francisco a few weeks ago, and while in the dark it looks pretty dark, in bright sunlight it looks VERY purple. I still think it looks pretty sweet, though.

Mike,
The car was in a tent, so only part of it was in the sun. I'll “give it another chance” when I see it again.

Yeah – like Indi blue Purple Haze is quite a bit different in the sun.

Thanx Ian for the gallery, nice pics.

Still loving the auto up window!!!

Both nice colors.

…RB

Why delay Hyper Blue on the Cooper (which currently has no blue color option) instead of the Cooper S which still has Electric Blue? Is there some good reason why MINI can't paint a Cooper Hyper Blue today?

Given the demise of Indi Blue and Cosmos Black, I'd be forced to get Astro Black if I were buying a 2005. That's the color I'm most interested in seeing in person.

My guess (and it's just a guess) is that the decision for the change from MINIUSA came late and for production reasons it wasn't possible too make it available for the Cooper by the beginning of the '05MY.

Of the Minis i saw in England, purple haze reminded me more of cosmos black than indi blue. It is very purple in the light yet very dark in the shade.

Hyper blue is much closer to indi blue but a little lighter i.e. a mix between indi blue and the mazda 3 blue.

Also, i saw some of those dealer painted 3 color irridencent mixtures and they were VERY cool, but I dont know if i could live with them for years.

in canada, theres EB on Cooper already……so its not all that special.
i guess DS will remain as the only exclusive MCS colour after Jan.05

Aww.. I wanted HB on my Cooper, oh well. These strange color and other phase in options on the '05s are the only things being phased in, right? Meaning, I'm having a Cooper built soon and it will be %100 2005, right? Not some of 2004 and some 2005 right? This January thing is bothering me, as I especially want the Getrag tranny.

You'll be getting a '05 Cooper and they will include the 5-speed Getrag. There should be no “performance” options being phased in for the Cooper 1/05.

Hyper Blue sold me on getting a Mini Cooper S instead of waiting!!!

Photos on a computer monitor screen will never look exactly like the color does in real light due to tons of variables.

I checked 3 dealers in NJ to find a Hyper Blue to see it in person.

Well I was lucky enough to see a 2004 Indi Blue right next to a 2005 Hyper Blue and it was sunny.

Josh is absolutely correct in his assessment of the color being a cross between Indi Blue and Mazda Blue.

I loved it so much that I am deciding to get a Cooper S instead of waiting for a Cooper in Feb.

The power of the “S” and the sweet whine of the supercharger had something to do with it too (grin)

I have always bought a car off the dealers lot and this time I am getting the exact color with the options I want.

I ordered a Hyper Blue MCS months ago. When I made the descision all I saw where the early pictures Gabe posted here.

I picked up my MCS last Friday and it's a really really great color. I love it. It's brighter and more crisp than Indi Blue, but not as flashy as the Mazda blue.

If you want, have a look at my site where I posted some pictures taken in various light conditions.

I'll keep an eye out on a blue Mazda and Indi Blue Mini over the weekend and make pictures of my MCS next to it if possible.

Philip, you are right!
The Hyper-blue is not much differend as Indi-Blue.
It's a little brighter, en especial in the sun.
(I had them, standing near eachother HB & IB)

I just picked up my HB/B MCS yesterday, and the colour is truly stunning (i'm in Canada, btw), especially with the exterior chrome package. I couldn't be happier about how it looks (and drives).

So I wonder how many countries actually view this site? I know England, Canada, Germany and maybe Quicksilver is in Holland.

Phillip nice pics. Are you anywhere near Erfstadt, which is near Koln?

Sorry I know that was off subject, I'll slap my own hand…RB

Well I placed my order for Hyper Blue MCS and ordered the black cloth which is a terrific alternative over the space grey option or the grey leatherette.

For those who are not getting leather and want an alternative check into it.

I have officially joined the Oct Club weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

this is what i think-MINI should have kept the indi blue color for the cooper, and made the hyper blue color an option only for the mini cooper s. this way, they are eclusive for each model, sort of like electric blue, or dark silver-love dark silver by the way. i have an 04 indi blue mcs, and ive parked it next to my friends hyper blue mcs. indi blue is almost 2 full shades darker but are both nice. but to me, indi blue is still a great color, and they should continue it on with the cooper at least. electric blue is available for the cooper in europe :-)

RB – According to our stats we get thousands of hits a day from Europe, Japan, and Australia in that order. We also get quite a few from Mexico and South American as well.

After months of searching for BEPH, I finally have seen it, but STILL haven't seen the HB in person. I just can't order a car without knowing the real color. BEPH really morphs – Charlie should come see it at Mt View MINI to see the real color. It's definitely purple.

ERIC
there is a hyper blue mcs on display at universal city mini in north hollywood, i dont know how far away you are from there, but if you really need to see the color, i might be able to take a picture of it and email it to you. it is a beautiful color.

Gabe,

That's amazing. Just goes to show ya what a great service and site you offer and have.

Philip,

Thanx for the email.

Still think they should have named it Blue Meany Blue.

We all live in a yellow sub….

…RB

2005 mcs with all options in Hyper Blue, demo, at Mini Of North Scottsdale,Az beautiful color , You have to see it in person Will be the new most popular color I'm guessing
