Remember that Limited Slip and MCS Automatic we told you about last May? Well those options and all of the other 1/05 additions have finally made it to the MINIUSA configurator. You can now build your MINI with the Limited Slip Differential, Convenience Package, Cooper S Automatic, Web Spoke Wheels, Rear Fog Lamp, iPod adapter and most of the new John Cooper Works accessories (several more to come). Also all three versions of the R99 are back on the site as well. Now, go play…

When you add the Works kit, it shows a picture of the air filter and the suspension upgrades as well, but it doesn't list them in details? Is this a tease, or should I start coming up with $5000 fast? :)

yeah “the works” means “the works”…you get the new intake and suspension as part of the package.

I wish I had checked MF before I left the house this morning. I can't play configurator games at work since I can't install flash.

As mentioned previously the air intake is part of the 2005 JCW works kit. It's also part of the upgrade kit and a standalone item. The JCW suspension is not part of the kit and is only available as a standalone accessory on the hardtop.

Still no exact details on the LSD? Is it a Quaife or Phantom Grip type?

Ipod adapter? Does it mean its finally out?

Is the part number the one posted on this site before?

Gabe,

Have you heard any ETA on the JCW suspension and the JCW brake kit in the US? I noticed the link you had to the JCW/MINI site was only off of http://www.mini.com, not miniusa.com.

I was wondering whether they will both make it to the US or will they stay on the other side of the pond?

The suspension kit, as mentioned above, is currently listed on MINIUSA and will be available very soon (if it hasn't already reached dealers). From what I've heard the brake kit will be available soon. However the fact that it wasn't included in this recent MINIUSA update might mean it's been pushed back.

Gabe, I thought I read somewhere that if you opt for the sport package there would be a choice for the web wheels instead of the s-lite wheels for an extra $800.00 bringing the cost for the package to $1800.00??

Called the dealer. Still not even a release date for the iPod adaptor. Why advertise it?

Well, the good news is the MINIUSA Configurator doesn't scream at me when I have the navigation system selected, and I choose to add the iPod adapter.. The bad news is that this could just be that they didn't bother to add that information to it. And that seems it could be likely because it's just an accessory where I don't think they usually consider order constraints. Hrm. Still no answer. :-/

Hmmm…It looks like the armrest option is gone. That's a bit worrisome, as the ipod adapter is backordered, but still shows up; the armrest used to show up, but now appears to be gone. Gabe, I know you've been armrested to death, but is there any more info on the dreaded armrest? This whole armrest thing is beginning to resmemble a Monty Python skit, although quite a bit more drawn out and not quite as funny…:D

thanks gabe :)

Still no mention of the 2005 Sirius upgrade or the 660 watt stereo upgrade.

I'm curious about the choice of wheels for the Sport Package, too. The configurator only lets you select the web wheels as an a la carte item. I recall reading several places that buyers could opt for the 5-spoke bullet or web wheels (pro rated additional cost) instead of the S-Lites on hardtop cars built in January. Does anyone know if that is true?

Yep, was playing around with it last night…got a few budget-busting cars saved…lol

Wow, we mini folks sure are picky. Its kind of like going into a locker room and hearing all the jibber jabber…

Exactly. Great camaraderie, though. I'll be ordering one of those budget busting MINIs in a few weeks. Who would have thought a $20K car could run high 30s? All worth the expense….no car under 70K has as much soul.

Wait a sec.. Under the new Convenience Package it shows auto headlamps.. Is this new for January as well? I wasn't aware such a feature was available previously?

I asked the people at JC about what all will be available in the US, they said everything in the JCW catalogue except the seats (damn the luck) will be available here.

if you look at the pics in the configurator the steering wheel is sporting the new bluetooth buttons? does this mean that it is coming to the US?

Chris – you're right. I believe this is an error with the configurator as it does not match up with the internal pricing documents I've seen.

Greg – in the US it'll be the web-spoke wheels that are optional on the sport pack for $500

Mike – yes that feature had been listed previously. [LINK]

Also not sure when exactly this came out but you can now download a PDF (with colors pics) if the MINI you've created on the configurator. I had heard from the folkds that put the site together that this was on the way but hadn't seen it until now. Very cool.

Thanks for the info, Gabe, somehow I didn't notice. 🙂 And yeah, that PDF function has been up I believe ever since they started with the '05 Configurator. I know I did it very shortly after it first came up whenever that was a while ago.

Gabe… I know the Canada web site allowed downloading of a pdf months ago (I know because out of desperation to see the '05 I built prior to its arrival, I went to any Mini site I could read and found it in Canada). Nice to see they brought the feature a bit South. :o)

I saw it but have no idea what it is. Got to ask dealer.

Mike,
Yes, auto headlamps is a new phase-in for January.

The old combination of rain-sensing wipers and auto-dimming mirror (option code 432, $150) will cease to exist on January 1.

As of 1/1/05, the auto-dimming mirror will be a standalone option (option code 431) and will cost $200.

The rain-sensing wipers will now be bundled with auto headlights as option code 521 and will also cost $200.

There will additionally be a new package called the Convenience Package (option code ZCV) that includes the auto-dimming rearview mirror, the rain-sensing wipers and auto headlights, and the universal garage door opener. This package will be priced at $400, making it a no-brainer if you want any two of those options a la carte.

The universal garage door opener is of course available seperately as well (and you don't have to wait for January, it's available now) as option code 319 for $200.

Greg,
On the hardtop Cooper S, the default wheel for the sport package is still the 17″ S-Lite. According to MINI USA, you can also opt for the 17″ web-spoke wheels with the sport package, which raises the cost of the package to $1850. The configurator apparently has not been updated with this information, but I think that's just an oversight on the configurator — pricing documents that go to the dealers indicate that the web-spoke wheels are an option w/ the sport package.

However I have seen nothing to indicate that the 5-spoke 17″ bullet wheels will be a factory option on the hardtop. I believe that these wheels will continue to be exclusive to the Cooper S convertible.

Somebody please reply! I'm waiting to order a MCS/JCW with ALL the JCW options but we are waiting here in the states as dealerships have no clue when the options are coming or what the prices are.
What is the JCW air filter kit? I did not see that on the JCW site and am told this is different than the air intake which is part of the tuning system. Will this add HP above the 210? What's the cost on this and all other JCW options? HELP! I want to order my car!

Greg, do a search at the top of this page. There's tons of info here if you're willing to find it.

The configurator lets you build a Cooper S with Automatic Transmission, Limited Slip Differential and JCW package.

Is this going to be a possible configuration to buy?

Woohoo!
Yesterday when I saw this article I rebuilt my car (with LSD and the rear fog light), emailed my Motoring advisor and officially ordered my Mini.

They say I'm the first order in North Carolina to get the Limited Slip Differential!

Dave,
No. The limited-slip differential is NOT available with the automatic transmission.

However, the Cooper S JCW kit IS available with the automatic transmission.

Question for anyone that knows the answer… will it be possible to get the 2-piece web wheels with all-season instead of performance tires? (Perhaps as part of the performance package upgrade?)

I love the web wheels but due to my soon-to-be-ordered 05 MCS JCW being intended as an all-season car, I can't buy the performance tires with the car. Of course, buying a set of the 18″ JCWs later on (and putting performance tires on them) will give me the best “swap them out” all-season functionality. But at first purchase I HAVE to have all-season tires.

Edge

Edge,
No, the web-spoke wheels are not available with all-season tires as a factory option.

If you want all-season tires on the web-spoke wheels, you will have to buy the tires separately and have them swapped onto your web-spoke rims.

My 2¢ for Edge:

If you're looking at 17″+ rims and are conscerned with winter weather, go performance. These large diameter all-weather tires handle badly in snow and ice. Go snows in winter and order your MINI faves!

Hello,

I got my 2005 Mini Cooper S in September. I really really really wanted automatic headlights, but I dont think that option was available. Does anyone know if I can order a part from the January 2005 Cooper and retrofit it in my September 2005. I ALWAYS forget my head lights on.. I loved that feature in my BMW 330xi. Any help would be appreciated.
