MINI has released a new 17″ dealer optional wheel for 2005 – the Double Spoke R99. Beyond looking cool the R99 also addresses one of the biggest concerns of the current standard factory installed 17″ wheel – unsprung weight. The S-lites (or R85) that come fitted on many MCSs weigh in at an extraordinary 25.1lbs where the R99s are just 21.9lbs. While they're no where near the weight of some aftermarket rims they are now the lightest 17″ wheel MINI offers.
The R99s are currently available in the UK and US availability should be just around the corner. Pricing should be similar to the S-lites.
