Should we get together for a winter drive somewhere? Maybe we should plan something for the Chicago auto show in Mid-Febuary. Just a suggestion.
I’d also like to discuss with everyone the idea of a Chicago Chapter of the MINICCA the next time we all meet.

How about Lake Geneva area? There are a few rustic roads out that way. I am probably free entire weekend of 1/25 and 1/26

Sounds like a great idea, I've been looking to get together with other mini owners in the same area since I picked mine up before Christmas.

Lake Geneva sounds good, I live up in Gurnee and have driven up ther several times.

Another suggestion would be out west, rural and farm roads near Sugar Grove, etc.

Sounds like a good idea Jim/Steve. I'm not too familiar with the area up there but I've heard it's nice. I'd probably be free most Saturdays in Jan. and Feb. until late afteroon.

I have almost all Sunday mornings free (my usual motorcycle time), possibly some Saturdays.. Next free Saturday for me is the 25th

Weekend of 25th works best for me too.

Hey Jim, I am in Beach Park, not far from you. What does your car look like? Maybe I have seen you. I have a Pepper White/Black.

We're out for all of January–Martin's on an ER rotation. Don't yet know his Feb. schedule. I know I can go without him, of course :)

Are you sure we shouldn't just do a circle tour of Krispy Kremes?

LOL, Victoria, that's the best idea yet!

Maybe we could make that part of our drive. Meet and Knauz and then drive over to Krispy Kreme before hiting some nice roads out near lake Geneva.

lol

How many Krispy Kremes do we need to stop at until we get sick.. Here are the ones in northern Illinois and Wisconsin..

Mundelein
200 Oak Creek Plaza
Mundelein, IL 60060

Gurnee
1508 Nations Drive
Gurnee, IL 60031

West Allis
2900 South 108th St.
West Allis, WI 53227

Brookfield
19165 West Bluemound Road
Brookfield, WI 53045

Hey Donna, I'll keep my eye out for you, I've got a jet black cooper with chrome side vents, "S" fuel cap and stubby antenna. :)

Krispy Kreme tour sounds salivating! Weekends are usually good for us, but we're going back to Singapore 23 January, won't be back till Feb 10.

Hey S'pore Jim, can you still get arrested for eating a durian over there? And how hard was it to swap out the fuel door with the S cap?

I've been thinking about getting an S cap since last April. The only hard part of installation, as I see it, is the fact that you have to have that little door surround painted. Of course that ups the price dramatically if you take it to a MINI body shop. Unless you can sneak it in with the repaint of something that's the same color as your car Knauz wanted an hours worth labor to do it. I'll be interested to hear how you did yours Jim.

MINI meet.. 01/25/03 How does this sound. meet early and take the long slow way up to Millies Pancake house in Delavan Wisconsin for b-fast. Anyone interested??

So far I'm free that weekend. How far is Millies? Which route would we take?

I can probably do the 25th or later weekends.

Its about 80 miles or so each way, just a bit past Lake Geneva. There are lots of nice back roads out there.. I will try to find a more direct and less direct way (go out slow, come back faster)

Count me IN! So how many is that. I will try to add one more MINI to this meet as well.

So what should be our meeting place? Knauz? Or is that too far northeast. Steve – where is our route northward going to take us?

I was thinking maybe Highland House parking lot, taking St. Marys road, river road, hunt club road and beyond.. Let me do some looking tonight, and get back to you tomorrow (or later tonight)

Count me in as well! Any chance that we can stop by the Yerkes Observatory "http://astro.uchicago.edu/yerkes/"? It has great old architecture, and is a perfect spot for photos.

I also recommend Snake Road / Rustic Road 29 "http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/scenic/rusticroad29.htm". Not real fast, but has a number of twists and turns as well as attractive scenery.

I'm in too!

A winter drive sounds great and all of the suggestions are excellent. Sunday the 26th would be best for Greg/Michael or any weekend thereafter. I have a class all day on the 25th so wouldn't be able to make it if that's the day. Cecil's hummin after 2000 miles and the tranmission fluid change and needs some exercise!

Greg

Cecil…I like that ;-)

26th is ok for me too

We leave for Singapore on the 25th, and no it's not illegal to eat durians it's my favorite fruit! :)

The S gas cap was an interesting project, took about an hour. Painting the trim was pretty simple, I used 5 layers of Krylon spray paint (since black is black is black) and 2 additinoal layers of clear coat. Waxed it nicely before I put it on. So far so good. It was tough getting the original ring out, make sure you cover the surrounding body parts or you're bound to scratch something.

It's a pretty significant change to the look, I'll be glad to help anyone out installing it if you're interested.

By the way, anyone knows who belongs to the blue cooper S that's always outside the O'hare Parking Service Office?

Jim

Jim that's really interesting. I can't wait to see how it looks. Originally the Cooper prototype had the chrome cap like the MCS. Unfortunately it was ditched sometime before production (I would assume to give the cars more visual differences). Sorry to hear you can't make it with us the weekend of the 25th. Sounds like Steve has some great plans for us.

OK all, Which date should we do.. Greg can't make Saturday the 25th.. Sunday is ok for me, but Saturday is better (I'll do Sunday if we can get more people out). Gabe helped put a nice map together of the route. This will be a longish ride…

How long is "longish"? Sunday is ok for me.

I am guessing about 75 or 80 miles each way. We will be on back roads at less than highway speeds for most of the ride. so my estimate is 1 1/2 to 2 hours (distance and time guesses may be a bit on the long side)

Sounds fun!

I was a little relucntant in regards to the distance until I saw the map. I have to say it looks like it would be fun. Do any of you guys think that it might be a bit long? If so maybe we can look at shortening it a bit. If not let's do it.

I am still in for Saturday Morn'

As for this post:By the way, anyone knows who belongs to the blue cooper S that's always outside the O'hare Parking Service Office? Jim

I have IB/W MCS by O'hare but it's usually in a parking garage, off Bryn Mawr.
